Sponsor Brunswick Staffer Missy Bellinder
« on: June 20, 2007, 05:57:25 AM »
If you haven't heard, Missy became only the 3rd woman ever to win a PBA Regional. Now she's starring in her own video, one in which she is made over into a striking starlet. Check out the opportunity to sponsor the video shoot.

She doesn't appear to be a fat, out-of-shape, beer drinking slob. Exactly what demographic are you trying to reach? Perverts and Johns? I'm confused. No offense, but most everyday women, when paired next to Playboy models will look like "plain Janes". However, I must say deft marketing strategy.

I wasn't alluding that Missy herself is any of those things. But if you ask any person on the street what the common stereotypes of bowlers are, then all of those things would be true.

We are simply presenting Missy to an audience outside of the competitive bowling world.

This looks more like a paid advertisement of the new internet site that is constantly being mentioned in the ad.

Missy is a partner of YouBowl.com.  Ebay is a very inexpensive way to promote the video and possibly gain sponsorships.

No one is forcing anyone to contribute.

I didn't see where they said they were going to make her look like a porn star.  Lia Montelongo is an actress and fitness model.  I'm guessing they'll give her a new hairstyle, give her a little make up and put her in an outfit that accentuates her positives.

Times have changed and this is a valid way for people to raise money for various activities.  I don't see how this is any different than receiving a bank loan or going to investors.  You need to get creative sometimes.

I saw this mentioned on the Ballreviews chat.  I didn't quite understand what this was and I still don't.  At any rate I am assuming there is a makeover involved.

I don't think she needs a makeover.

On a side note, who are all these strippers who are hanging out with her on the eBay pictures?  Is this like Extreme Porn Makeover?  If so I guess it would be interesting.  I am not sure what it has to do with bowling though...

I realize I may be missing the point here but this is just a random thought from a person who clicked on the link.  I kind of get what you are saying in terms of giving bowling a better image, but it more seems depressing to me to think that this girl can't be good enough representing bowling the way she already is.  Everything in our society is so superficial and fake as it is.  I like bowling because people bowl because they like it, not because it is fashionable or trendy.

Either this whole thing is a scam or Missy needs a new agent.

I'll be the third to actually issue a Congrats to Missy.

Anyways, what a fiery topic.  Here's my 2 cents.  As a personal venture, I don't see anything wrong.  Getting some publicity and a makeover is nice especially if it opens some doors for her future.  As the excuse of promoting bowling, I have to call BS.  Taking an average person and making them look better won't dissolve the fat drunken slob image.  To do that, you must take all the fat drunken slobs and give *them* the makeover, i.e. get 'em fit and sober.  I have no problem with what Missy is doing for herself, in fact it's clever, but I do chuckle at the notion that it will provide some greater good.

some of you must be from really small towns....or just like to dig too deep into things for no good reason...

she is a plain jane....she is cute....but is a plain jane...

i wouldn't consider striking starlet to be anything porn related...but that's just me...

in all the makeover shows i've watched on tv....i've never seen anybody turn out like a "porn star"...she'll probably just get a tan....or new hairdo....and a new wardrobe...

could be good for bowling...hey...hot chicks bowl too...not just ugly nascar loving ones.

This is true.  Seriously, I have actually made a point to analyze the image of bowling compared to what I actually see.  I just don't see the stereotype as being real out there in competitive bowling.  These people who are excellent bowlers are also fit and they are usually good representatives of the sport on their own right.

Also I am wondering about something.  This video will play on youbowl.com?  So the people watching it will be bowlers?  Bowlers already know the stereotype isn't true so you aren't going to change their minds.  The only way to change the outside perception is to let the public become more and more aware of the reality that already exists.  I think getting makeovers is all fine and good, but this whole presentation just seems sad to me.  Like maybe selling out or something?

Yeah, that's kind of the impression I got.  Just being honest.  Now, I love bimbos don't get me wrong...  I just hate to see this sort of superficial stuff applied to the thing I love and spend so much time doing.

The site will target bowlers of all skill level, with most of the focus being on recreational bowlers, the demographic that is actually growing in the bowling world.

Recreational bowlers will most likely enjoy the makeover video, seeing the entertainment side of it rather than the bowling side of it.

I don't understand that statement.  It would hurt bowling to put you out there because you're attractive?

Greg, there's no doubt the "bowling world" sees her as a great player.

The world outside of bowling, on the other hand, has never heard of her.

If we just "leave it at that", then in our opinion, the outside world is missing out on a great story of dedication, passion and personality.

Missy, and other accomplished bowlers out there like her, are already praised in the bowling community. It's about time they are at least given the opportunity to reach outside of that community....

Sorry your marketting ploy lacks quality content and JLB after reading many of your ideas which most i believe had merit this one reaks of the cheese. I am all for Missy getting a makeover. She could really show a tremendous hot side. Not that she isn't of good looks already. I guess maybe with the wording in the ad and the photo's I didn't draw that correlation of what I was buying and how it was good for me. I hope for her it works out. I think a little better drawn out plan might go farther. I don't disagree with new marketting strategies to help shed light on bowling just a bit more professional or directed.

Ok, this is admittedly reading too deeply into this but:

Another interesting contradiction is that the youbowl website is all about the individuality of the people who are supposed to be blogging on the site and then here is this person getting "fixed" by a squad of strippers who swoop in and save her from her played out normal-looking human being existence.  The images convey that she will be transformed into another plastic looking L.A. movie star wannabe.

One thing I don't get about marketing is that even if you have a plain Jane (which I am not saying she is), there are a lot of plain Janes out there to market to.  They have money they want to spend also.
