OK Brunsguys - I don't have an Intense yet - not sure if I really need one. Let's see if we can place one in the arsenal.

Specs - Over the hill 49.95 years old - medium revs - average speed (around 14.5 mph measured down lane (haven't measured it in the heads, but probably around 17 mph) - can play up the back strokin' or rotate-swing it and bring it. PAP 6.25 x 1/2. The "most often used" balls in the arsenal are the:

If I understand "Activator", "Activator +", and Brunswick's description of the ball, I would expect the Intense to give me a more even reaction from oil to dry, more energy conservation than the original Inferno, and able to give me that Inferno look and Inferno hit on oil volumes that are a bit too light for the original Inferno? Right now the Fire Quantum fits that role, but it can be a bit over/under on today's heavier oil volumes, and it will "wiggle" given sufficient carrydown. Your description of the Intense leads me to believe that it will not have that problem when the shot transitions and some oil pushes down the lane? I'm trying to relate it to my original Inferno and my Classic Zone. When the Inferno moves too early or loses energy in the heads/mids, the Classic Zone takes over. With it's Activator cover, fantastic core, and the pin over bridge layout I can get it back from almost ANYWHERE and still have good carry. If you were going to lay out an Intense for me, what would you do? I'm thinking something along the lines of 5x5 pin under ring? Something to give me a look similar to my Inferno but on the patterns too light for the Inferno - and less angular than the Classic Zone.
Oh - an unrelated question - what year did Brunswick make the Manta - and was it a U.S. release or overseas?

The Manta came out in the late 1970s, right about the same time as the original Johnny Petraglia LT-48. IIRC, it was dark blue, dull, soft rubber, and not quite as strong as the LT-48. I'm pretty sure it was a U.S. release, as several of the shops in my area had them at the time.

As for the Intense...seems to me that the *last* thing you need is another bowling ball.

I sold off a few - there's room for one more.

I don't have a ball storage area. I never keep enough of 'em around long enough to have to worry about things like that.

...and OBTW, the vast majority of the bowling balls that I own right now are still undrilled.

...and I know, there's *always* room for one more.

Still waiting to see someone out here throw the Intense. Lots of Ultimates, though. Hey, maybe you *should* get an Intense, so that I can finally watch this ball in action.
