Strike King Closeouts?

Hi,

I noticed that Buddies is selling Strike Kings at closeout prices.  Does anyone know if there are going to be color changes or will they be replaced altogether?

That's what I'm hoping.  Maybe the brand new cover is just seeing the friction super hard.  However, I thought the same thing about my (burgundy) Ringer, but it still seems to read friction in a bad way.  Too strong to play near the friction, not enough to move deep and swing it a lot (at least with my rev rate).  I've thought about redrilling it, but when a ball seems to not match your game, I'm not sure it's worth chancing another $50.

I think maybe its the new summer bowling disease No OILlitis very common in the south.I can cover 30 boards with my Strike King.Sure hope winter comes fast.I really want to throw my new Mastermind Strategy have not even took it out of the box yet.

I added a hole to the Ringer; I still don't like it.  Too strong for the light/short shots, too weak for the long/heavy.  I've tried everything from finely sanded + polish to pretty dull and everything in between.

I bowl on sports shots - summer & winter, so there's always a reasonable amount of oil.  I really hope the Strike King looks better with some fresh oil or after it gets a few games on it.

Much better today.  Supposed to be the Nationals pattern, but the lane guy said it was Viper.  He's pretty new and doesn't program the machine.  I'm hoping they saved the Nationals pattern in the Viper slot since the machine only saves a handful of patterns.  The Strike King got down very easily and made a pretty predictable move at the end of the pattern.  The ball still lopes more than I'd like - not sure if it from the drilling or the nature of the ball (rg min = 2.58, rg max = 2.61).  The pin is about 2 1/2" from my axis, but a little above the fingers, CG almost at grip center.

I'd say it was the nature of the SK to lope long. As I mentioned above, it's the longest resin I own, including a Slingshot. I'd suggest it handles as light an oil these days that a resin can handle. Some older balls, of course, can handle less.

Sounds like my scream super lopey.  My shout is much better, and I got a loco solid (thank God) in the mail as I type!

Strider, I have experienced something similar to you on "weak" reactives.  I remember getting a Punisher for dryer lanes and broken down tournament shots.  Unfortunately, when that ball saw friction, it was left turn.  I had to play significantly deeper with that ball than any of my Infernos or Zones at the time.  As you alluded to, allergic to oil and violent on friction.

Ah, forever the dilemma. Many balls will lope easily thru light oil or very dry heads, but it's what they do on the backend that can make or break the bowler. Sometimes you want/need a stronger backend: Strike King, Deep Freeze, Joy Ride, etc. Sometimes you need/want much less of a backend: Slingshot, Tropical Breeze Hybrid, Blue/Green Centaur, (new) Blue Hammer, etc.

You've got to know what the ball is designed to do, not just buy one because someone else likes it.
