Struggled last night...need suggestions:
« on: June 08, 2005, 12:02:08 AM »
Well, since I switched to Brunswick a few weeks ago, I struggled for the first time with the lane conditions last night.  I have a Nemesis and Ultimate Inferno both box surface.  The volume of oil seemed to be greater and the fresh backend was shorter for whatever reason.  Needless to say, after the first game and a half, the pattern was a disaster.  I believe the two crankers on the other team that try to cover every board on the lane really pushed the oil around with their highly polished equipment.  The backend disappeared and the amount of oil that I was wiping off my Nemesis and Ultimate Inferno after each shot was unbelievable.  As a result of this, both of my Brunswick balls would not react very much.  I tried every line I could think of and nothing would work.  I have a feeling there was a ton of carrydown in addition to the high volume of oil in the heads.  So my question to the nation is this:

What ball would you recommend to me to help combat this type of lane condition?

Lol, if you can't get Brunswick to pick up and move, good luck, haha.  Honestly, I don't know.  The Ultimate and the Nemesis are two of the best heavy oil balls out there.  I'd love to see that kind of oil though . .

i had the same issue with my ultimate...

both the UI and Nemisis are reactive...try a heavy particle.

I'm in with the "what's the head oil like" crew.

If there's decent head oil a medium particle should get into a nice roll midlane for you. Otherwise with a little less head oil look into a particle pearl. I know that I've had pretty good luck with a Freak Out (I know, not big B sorry). I just get it outside of the carrydown a little & it bites & moves.

Personally as a lower rev bowler I've never had luck with any regular reactive ball on carrydown.

I forgot to mention if head oil is fried, I've found that a very dull regular urethane is nice. I'm talking 320 grit or so. It doesn't overreact in the heads & still gets into a decent roll midlane.

The head oil was still plentiful.  They dumped a ton of oil on the lanes for some reason.  My Nemesis is drilled 3.5"x5" with the pin almost next to the ring.  The Ult. Inferno is drilled 4.5"x4" with the pin under the fingers.  My Tuesday team is comprised of two tweeners and two strokers and after the first game and a half, we all had the same results:  "Skidfest"

I'm pretty sure a particle ball would fit the bill on this type of condition.  I am leaning towards either a Warp or Impulse Zone.

That's the exact condition that I have my Lane #1 Blue Carbide Solid for.

Don't expect to swing the ball or anything, but a nice solid particle will get into a roll & you shouldn't have to worry about the carrydown at that point.

Sounds a bit like my regular sport shot? If 800 grit equipment doas not do the job, just try to play SLOW and stay behind the ball. I found that this works well on such slippery conditions, because any effort on top will just make the ball skid or react incontrollably? Brunswick balls like to roll, and IMHO that's just what you should try to do with them on such slippery conditions? For it works fine, the coverstock and core can show what they are capable of.
