Original Inferno or smokin?
« on: August 23, 2005, 10:38:56 PM »
I use my absolute for med-heavy, playing down and in.
I would like a ball to fit under the AI for med when the
lanes become too dry for the absolute.
I loved my first OI but it seems that the Smokin is an awesome
ball. Isn't this ball too strong or too flippy for med lanes?
I don't want to change the OOB surface.
My absolute is drilled 4X4.
More info in my profile.
Thanks for your help,
JJ

The Smokin will probably take on mediums a lot easier than would the Absolute. I believe it's been said that when the Absolute starts checkin up a bit too early, the Smokin will come in handy being highly polished. Something like 5-6 feet later coming in light and still carry while the AI comes in dead flush.

Ok Kingpin, and do you think that the Smokin will be as
controlable as the Original? According the Brunswick chart the
Smoking is very angular.

The rampage seems to be too flipy for me.

Oh, sorry about the Rampage, actually I had the Punisher in
mind, the Rampage doesn't seem to be so flippy...

The Smokin is great.  It is a pretty flippy ball, but it's the most consistent flip in a ball I've ever seen.  It always checks up at the breakpoint.  It consistently goes longer and stronger than anything I have.  It almost acts like the conditions aren't there.  Most versatile ball I've ever thrown, easy.  It's the only league ball I need.  I could take just the Smokin to league at every house in town and that's all I'd need.  I think it'd be perfect OOB.

From what I've heard, the Smokin is angular but in a smooth controlled type way. I bet a nice control drilling on it would tame it down and if it was still too much than take down the surface a bit. The Original would probably be a bit more smooth due to the regular Activator. The Activator Advance matches up better with the med RG cores? Correct me if I'm wrong. Also it is much more clean through the heads and mids and stronger in the back.

All forms of Activator covers are extremely versatile with surface preparations. You could probably get these balls to do anything. lol

Sounds like Bob Hanson knows what he's talkin about. In my experience with the Absolute, it sucks oil off the your line real fast much faster than any other ball I've thrown save the Ultimate. You either got to get much deeper or let off on the revs on the THS. I bet with the Smokin you could stay in the same area when the midlane starts to go. Scuffing the surface of the Smokin could probably give you a very similar reaction to that of the Absolute.
