2 sidewinders?
« on: July 01, 2008, 03:14:22 PM »
umm at the brunswick booth the guy said theres 2 sidewinders one solid particle and one pearl one the particle ones $140 and the pearl one is $99
i was thinking that this ball is a hybrid part solid particle part pearl
the person looking at it i believe is wanting a ball that will handle a bit more oil than the rest of the stuff he has so is the guy at the burnswick booth just trying to screw him out of 40 bucks and say buy the solid one?

There was a small batch of Sidewinders that didn't have the particle added to the coverstock. These are BLEMS.

You CAN tell if a Brunswick ball has particle to the coverstock by visual inspection - it looks like very fine mica, or PET sparkles, and they become more obvious when you submerge the ball in water (different light - the particles become more translucnet and appear darker).

I had recently the case that I have seen the Elite balls for the first time, looked at the Viper - and it is in fact a particle ball, you can clearly see it when you take a close look.

The problem with the Sidewinder is that it has a low particle load, and that the pearl resin makes contrast to the particle additives really low, so you best bet is to have a look at the solid black areas. But even then it is tough to tell.

I don't think these balls are blems. There is no cosmetic defects on these. They just didn't get the particle added in the coverstock when poured. Just by looking, it is obvious that the whole coverstock is pearl. We have them in our stores and they are actually pretty popular. It rolls alot like a Rampage with a Rocket Core.

The cheaper one was a mess up that they had in the factory I believe.  It is just a regular Sidewinder with out the low particle load i believe.  we drilled one in the shop i work at.

Here you guys go... the Reactive Sidewinder is on the left and the normal one is on the right.

JMac,

By mistake I bought the reactive on Ebay. Do you think the reactive is more for dry? What differences did you see when you rolled both of them? I fooled my self thinking it was one thing, then got confused when it didn't react the way a particle pearl should.

Buckwild - It's not what I'd consider a dry lane ball at all. It's still a low RG core with PK18 for a cover.  No Brunswick ball released for dry lanes has ever had that combination. Great medium oil ball, depending on the bowler of course.
