The Target Zone isn't really a hooking ball.  Any ball will hook if you throw it properly, but the TZ isn't designed to hook.  It would be more accurate to say it's designed to go straight and if you're hooking it, then you're going out of your way to do so.

If you want a decent first hooking ball, look into the Tropical Storm, Crisis Solid, Power Groove, a Planet-line ball from Rotogrip, an Element-line ball from Ebonite, or a Columbia Scout.  They'll cost a little more than the Target Zones, but they're made to hook and they'll give you a lot more hitting power.
