Thank you again Brunswick! (kinda long)
« on: June 13, 2008, 06:18:33 AM »
A few months ago, pamphlets went out for the KY Youth Open, and I had never done it before, so I went ahead and sent in my money, expecting the best of the best to show up, and for it to be an overall tourny for some good experience.
Last wedsday, I punched up my second twisted fury, pin above bridge, cg in palm. Simply just couldnt help myself, lol, this one was just sexy lookin.
The format for the open is as follows: 6 games at Executive Bowl, 6 games at Kingpin Lanes, 6 games at AMF Derby Lanes, and the top 8 go to the finals at Boulevard Fun Zone for another 8 games. It is obviously scratch, and all on sport shot patterns. When I arrived at Executive, I was right, all the best of the best were there, even some kids from maryland, illnois, indiana, and tennessee.
First shift is a weird shot, very long, but a small dry area way down lane between 1 and 4. While most played straight up, not chancing throwing it into the ditch, I was standing middle dot on the approach, and nailing that spot repeatedly with my twisted, nailing the pocket 80-90 percent of the time. After first shift, I had shot the high game of the shift, a 277, and was in the cut sitting in 8th.
Second shift is tougher, with what seemed like only a few boards of oil rigt up the middle, and everything else unplayably dry. Using my Radical Inferno, OOB, pin above the ring, cg in palm, I stood against the ball return and played literaly a straight line into the 1-3 pocket. After averaging a tourny leading 213 after the first 4 games, I started to cool off, having a slight problem with high hits. For the shift the average of the field was 171, while I averaged 201. I moved up 2 spots to 6th, still inside the cut.
3rd shift was actually funny, because rumor went around of a 42ft flat shot. It ended up being as close to a house shot as possible, while still being a sport shot(somewhat bigger out-of-bounds area than usual). I shot 1275 for those 6, and moved up into 5th for the final cut, throwing my newly drilled twisted fury the whole shift.

In the finals, carry was a problem for everyone, and only 2 people traded standings. I was throwing my twisted fury again, loft the gutter to slightly before the arrows. The average for the final 8 games(of the 8 finalists) was a whopping 182, with only 14 200's being shot out of the 64 games. I didnt move at all, staying in 5th place, but securing myself a nice $250 in scholarship money. Not bad for the first time, considering I didnt even think I had a chance.

I did see a bunch of people throwing newer stuff, including playmakers, teal vibes, black widow bites, and some other new stuff. Not many people were throwing Big B for some reason.
I can promise that I wouldnt have had a chance if I didnt have the equipment that matched up so nicely to the shots. I threw my Twisted Fury, Radical Inferno, Total Inferno, and Absolute Inferno for the tourny, and overall averaged 197, while first place averaged 209. I ended up being 93 pins out of first after everything was said and done.

So once again, I would love to thank brunswick for providing me with this equipment, I cant thank you all enough. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, IT IS APPRECIATED GREATLY!!!
THANKS BRUNSIWCK!

Great bowling, Chrispy!  It's a big boost to do well in that kind of setting.

For some reason, it's just not "glamorous" to throw Big B at times. Maybe it's because they've been around forever, but on tougher patterns I will take a predictable, "rolly" Brunswick ball any day...

Good shooting. That sounds like a really good tournament. Any big names in youth/collegiate bowling there?

it may not be "glamorous" to throw brunswick but it does show good common sense and an appreciation of using the best.
