decreasing hole...
« on: March 22, 2007, 05:51:20 AM »
would a decreasing hole give a ball more length? what will it do to it's backend reaction? also...where do i put it in relation to my axis point?

If the ball is over flaring the decreasing hole will help bring the oil rings tighter and will make the ball read the lanes earlier. The Decreasing hole is usually (I think) exact center of the pin to your pap.

If Im wrong here, please dont bite my head off for it. Just politely correct me.

I saw less reaction overall, less midlane and less hook with a decreasing hole.

maybe a decreasing hole isn't right for me...i want the ball to get down the lane a little further...but maintain what little backend reaction that it does have...lmk what you think...

Do you have some thumb weight to play with?

I'm thinking of going down the VAL, but 1 1/8" closer to the grip center. It'll give you kind of the best of both worlds. Midlane with hopefully a little pop on the backend.

One way you could do this:

If your PAP is say 5" x 0, then measure over 3 7/8" from grip center, draw the VAL and go 2 1/4 down.

okay...it's worth a shot, i really want to like this ball...my pap is 5 over 3/4 up...so i would go 3 7/8 from grip center and 2 1/4 below my pap right?

oh...and not sure about thumb weight.

You can always drill the fingers deeper if needed to stay legal.

So from grip center you'd go 3 7/8" x 1 1/2 down. That is where your X-Hole will go.

thank you. i'll let you know how it goes.

btw...no grips...tiny fingers...might have to go REAL deep. the cg is just below my center line though so i think it'll be fine.

Check statics, if you're concerned, then don't go down your VAL.

after taking a closer look at the way my fury was flaring...we realized that the flare separation was less than 1/4" apart. my driller and i decided on a flare increasing x-hole...1" past my axis (less than 2 1/4 to avoid flaring over it). made it a little better. my driller also suggested drilling the thumb deeper, into the core. he talked about this with tod grams who said it sometimes helped a lot. so he did that...what an animal! still doesn't hook as much as i thought it would, but the hit/carry/backend all improved tremendously. going to give it a go on a fresh shot tomorrow and see how it goes.
