Brunswick pearls...
« on: November 20, 2004, 10:40:16 AM »
Does anyone think Brunswicks pearl coverstocks are too weak? Ive had a big problem getting a consistant read from any of the pearls I've drilled on medium patterns, with exception of the Activator cover. Ive had the SlayR, Punisher, Frenzy, and the gold Power Groove. Has anyone else had this problem.

"weak" and what you're describing, over/under, are two different things.  Those balls you listed aren't really supposed to be predictable and smooth.  If you're looking for that, go with the bruiser or a particle ball.

I agree. Ive drilled all of them with the pins low to try to keep it from OVER flipping. Problem I have is, the center I bowl at use very dense oil, it carries down, doesnt evaporate. But the lane surface is pretty worn down so stronger equipment difficult to get thru the fronts...

I tried to use pearls with stronger drill patterns to get thru the fronts but still read the mid-lane. But either they dont read at all, or they over read the random dry spots on the backend. Im not throwing it bad, I just cant get a good read from anything.

My next option is to try using more solids without having Xholes. hopefully it'll give me a cleaner look thru the front but still read more even on the backend.

Any suggestions??? should I try pearls without weight holes too?

I'm going to have to agree with Bob here...although a stronger pearl MAY work here, the best bet would probably be either a polished solid reactive (such as a Blade or a V2) or a SLIGHTLY polished weaker particle pearl (i.e. Sheer Havoc, but not something as strong as an ACE or Real Deal)

If you want something stronger then the Slay/R, the Bruiser is perfect. Its such a good control ball, it doesnt jump off the dry, its a solid that you can polish up even more then it comes.

Have most of you had success with balls drilled pin above the fingers with brunswick? Ive always had success with pins below the fingers, but it seems with Brunswick, Ive only liked the ones with the pin above. I hadnt noticed this until I took a look at all of them together. Seems something about brunswick balls roll better for me with the pin above.

at first I thought it was because Brunswick generally rolled early, but I threw Ebonite exclusively for a few years and their stuff generally rolls early also. and with Ebonite, I had success with the pin below generally.

Im confused......

I dont think so, I've thrown brunswick stuff with the pins below and it reacts nicely for me. I've thrown AK's bruiser and it has the pin below the ring finger, that thing is STRONG. But like I said, the Bruiser sounds to be exactly what you need.

The Frenzy is "flippy", but for the "flippy" balls out there, I always found it to be one of the most forgiving -- it evens out the "flippiness" many of these balls seem to have.  In my experience, the N'Control it is nowhere near as flippy as the comparable Storm or Columbia coverstocks.
