Need advice FAST, my inferno has a 5" pin!
« on: December 18, 2003, 08:30:22 PM »
I'm drilling it this afternoon.....

Recieved the ball this morning, was supposed to be a 3-4" pin and it is just shy of 5"....

I was going to drill it pin over bridge or over ring, just kicking out the CG a half inch or so....

What will the effects of the 5" pin be?  If I keep the grip fairly neutral (finger/thumb weight speaking) the pin will probably be 2" above the fingers....

Should I shift the grip up a little maybe ending with a little thumb weight, or just drill it?  What with the real high pin do to influence the layout?

THANKS!!!!!

i don't think it will make that much difference----go ahead and drill it as planned. depending upon the the lane condition you're going to be using it on you may need to adjust the coverstock prep. i found mine too over/under with the factory polish. leaving the ball wetsanded 2,000 grit gave me MUCH better results. good luck !

Was it "supposed to be" or was that just what you asked for? Some places tell you they'll send whatever they have that's closest to what you ask for, but they often let you specify if you ONLY want exactly what you ask for.

Depending on the nature of the seller, why not contact him/her and ask them why you didn't get what you asked for (politely, of course) and if they can get you that pin or if you have any other options.

If you're that uncomfortable with a 5" pin, don't be in such a rush to drill it.  With the Inferno's core and surface, there are probably many possibilities.

check Brunsiwick's site, they show long pin drillings.

First, put the center of gravity a tad below the centerline.

Then it depends on what reaction you want.  Long length, maybe kick the center out just an inch or so and keep the pin above the ring finger.  For more hook, maybe kick the pin out a couple inches right of the holes and keep the CG close to the span.  There are some options.

The Inferno is a strong ball that wants to rev up and roll early. Having a 4" pin instead of a 5" pin isn't going to make a noticeable difference in my humble opinion. I wouldn't send it back. It probably wouldn't hurt to move the CG slightly towards the thumb in order to drop the pin closer to the fingers.

We drilled it!  Moved the CG toward the thumb a little and kicked out about 5/8" ...it came out just fine.....

I haven't thrown it yet though....

Pin is about 1/2" above the ring finger, the ball ended up 3/4 top, 3/4 pos side, 1/8 thumb .....

I can't wait to throw it!
