The Holy Grail! (figjam warning)
« on: January 28, 2011, 03:59:26 AM »
I traded for a Gold Rhino Pro over the  holidays.  I always heard this ball is amazing and remember drooling  over the Holy Grail videos on Brunsnick's web site (http://www.brunsnick.com/rhino_gold.html).

The ball is immaculate with the exception of some plug work around the  thumb.  It's drilled label with the pin in line with the ring finger.

Today I went to practice. They oiled the lanes and I used my Teal Rhino for the first two games, switching to the Gold half way through the second.  Third game I went  front 10, then left a RINGING 7, picked it up and shot another strike  for a 289.  My highest game prior to this was a 252.  I could taste the  300.

The Gold Rhino was absolutely amazing.  I could land the ball anywhere  from the 4 board to the 12 and hit the pocket every time.  With the  label drill and the smooth pearl cover (320 grit +1000 grit  +compound+secret sauce) the ball just rolled into the pocket and crushed  the pins.

Now I know why they call it the HOLY GRAIL!

Great shooting, however I am a little confused... you said you went front 10, left a 7 then made the spare.... then threw another strike??? lol, must be Amish bowling or something ;)

Doug, i'm a little confused.  You state "I could land the ball anywhere from the 4 board to the 12 and hit the pocket every time",  on conditions like (wall of China by your example) that it's exceptionally easy to make numerous ball's look exactly the same.  My question is, why a self-admitted FIGJAM on conditions like this?

I mean if you come on and are like "I shot 650 on shark with this ball" or "I shot 700 on viper" or even "I had 845 on China", i'd understand, but on a shot where you have 8, meaning EIGHT, boards of room?

Just saying.......the ball isn't called the "Holy Grail" because it can score on a MEGA wall.

I'm an average league bowler who never scores in the high 200s.  In fact,  in my 2 years of bowling leagues in several different houses I rarely see scores high.  I actually like to hear when avergae league bowlers have success.

For me,  this was good (and thanks for correcting me that I got the front 9).  And I don't have any other balls that give me that much room for error. And as noted,  I like to collect old equipment.  Some people covet these Gold Rhinos so I thought I'd share my experience with it.

Thanks for reminding me why I so rarely post here!

Great shooting doug. I've got one of the old "goldies" myself that I used up until I changed weights, and more than once it has gotten me scores when others wouldn't.

And, don't worry too much about people who are critical of you. They often think that since THEY are so qualified to know what's going on that SURELY they MUST be smarter and better than you. I've been bowling and studying this game/sport for 29 years now, and I KNOW for a fact that I know more than a large percentage of them, yet they never fail to tell me how ignorant, uninformed, and stupid I must be. They have NO CLUE.

Let bowling be fun, challenging, and remember, the only one that you have to please is YOU, not all the people here who continually try to shoot down everybody that hasn't been a professional tournament winner or a member of the Hall of Fame.

Good shooting doug.  Next time though, leave the part "I could land the ball anywhere from the 4 board to the 12 and hit the pocket every time" out, that runs counterproductive to your point.  Ya know?

 Congrats on your personal accomplishment.
