They arrived!! Need some help...
« on: March 04, 2005, 03:21:32 AM »
Hey BrunsNick, Brunsrich and Brunsbob or any other person that knows a great deal about Brunswick drill patterns.  Over the past year I have been trying each company and I just love the reaction that Brunswick and Morich give but I mostly use Brunswick.  Here is what arrived today and was curious as to how you guys think i should punch em up.  All have between 2-3 pin and tops except classic which has 4oz of top.  My pap is 4 3/4 right and 1/2 up, medium speed and medium revs.

original inferno box condition driled 4 x 4 pin next to ring
Ultimate drilled 4 1/4 x 3 3/8 pin slightly under ring(dull in box condition).
Intense Inferno that is about 4 3/4 x 3 with pin above ring.
Impulse zone-5 1/2"pin to PAP over middle finger and PSA about 2" right of thumb
Classic Zone-4 3/4 pin to PAP above ring and psa about 1 1/2 right of thumb
Ultimate Inferno-4x4 in box condition
Absolute Inferno-pin in palm and cg out.
Punisher drilled 5 3/4 x 4 1/2 with pin above bridge with negative side weight

Anything else you guys think i need?

ALSO THOUGHT I WOULD SAY: that i will be bowling the PTQ for the PBA Banquet Open in Michigan on March 16th if you would help with what layouts you think I could use there.  Thanks again!

Any ideas?  The PBA Banquet open will be on the Chameleon pattern...

Eww...pattern D!  Tough nuggets.  I would definately do with a negative drill(5 to 5 1/2 pin over your middle finger) with a stronger Mass Bias on the Impulse Zone(add polish).  That should give you more area down the lane as the break down with a consistant read through the heads and midlane.  With one of those Absolutes(or Regular Inferno), I love the look of the layout(I forget exactly which one it is on the new Brunswick sheet), that puts the Pin 1-1.5 inches over the middle finger, with the c.g kicked about 2 inches from the grip center and the flare-reducing weighthole inside of your VAL.  This will give you the needed angle to get inside and carry, but the flare reducing hole should lay off the tendency for the Infernos to want to start checking up so early in the midlanes.

I've seen alot of staffers shy away from the use of the Power Grooves and Punishers for more than a Gap or Niche ball, but I think they work very well with a 4 inch pin to PAP placement(C.G. out near PAP), Weighthole deep into the PAP, for a more hook/set reaction.  Works great in fierce backends, and drying tracks.  It will also give you the option of playing up the out of bounds if you take the surface down to about 1000 or 1500.  I say choose the Power-Grooves or Punisher only because they will push better through the heads and midlanes than something as early revving as the Inferno Series or Classic Zone or Nemesis.

Good luck out at the PTQ.

THanks guys for wishing me luck and i also forgot to mention I have a Punisher drilled with 5 3/4 pin little left of middle of the bridge about 1/2" up and cg out to the right a little bit, small x hole on PAP, maybe I should deepen the x hole?  any thoughts?

Bigger & deeper.  Maybe 31/32 until you get down to about 1/2 negative.  Just curious, how strong is your revrate?  I think a 4 inch pin placement would work better though.  You might not see anything out of that 5 3/4 with negative weight unless you take the surface down.

I would say i am a medium revrate.  I used to be the pure stroker but I changed recently to the load-unload method and let roll off my fingers such as the tommy jones, patrick girard, chris barnes, etc.  Not exactly sure on the # of rpm's though, i might have to find out.

Ike,

Point of information:
Maybe I'm not reading what you wrote correctly or maybe you're not describing things fully,
BUT
if that's your PAP (4 3/4" x +1/2") and if the pin is next to (directly outside, but not above) the ring finger, then that drilling is closer to pin at 3 1/2" to 3 3/4" from PAP - a very strong drilling,
as opposed to a 4 1/2" pin placement which is only moderately strong.

What I did with my classic//Impulse was the same layout. It makes both balls react the same but work great on different patterns. Impulse Pin under Ring CG out. That will give you a strong controlable reaction in med-heavy. Classic same layout and that works great in light-med.

D pattern gets ugly, but is playable from different angles.

Bring something that is cleaner thru the fronts with good recovery. Classic Zone is AWESOME, chances are you will need to be playing inside. Only one time have I ever been right of 20 on that ca-ca.
