I have a question that I have pondered about cores. Since brunsrich was on the topic of core shape, I thought I'd ask.

Is it a falacy that 3 piece balls do not "hit" as hard as 2 piece balls? I often here this, that so and so's ball does not have the continuation, throw the pins around just because of the core.

I know it is said that the bowler and the condition dictates hit. If this is true, shouldn't a 3 piece ball have just as much continuation/messangers on its condition as a stronger ball does on its? Does this also not make it pointless to make a weak cover strong core ball, as everyone clamors for?

Meaning, most 3 piece balls are urethane. The Power Grooves are modified 3-piece cores with mildly reactive coverstocks. The combination on the correct condition creates a fairly strong, lateral reaction. Slay/R has a weaker coverstock with a low Rg medium diff core. It is weak with a smooth reaction. Punisher has a weak cover with a stronger core, cleaner path with a stronger reaction.

Also, going over to the other thread, 3-piece cores are low differential, high RG cores. Shape is not the determining factor, NUMBERS are. As the TV show says, "Numbers don't lie!"

What I was referring to with respect to weak covers was much weaker than the balls mentioned above, more along the lines of the people who clamor for a plastic ball with a core.

I have a HIT reactive (sorry its not a brunswick) that I swear hits so damn hard on medium light oil that I have a hard time putting it down. People will often say that 3 piece cores will not hit as well, but i certainly have not found this to be the case with this ball.

COR does determine the potential impact of a ball.

Personally I feel that coverstock dictates impact more. Throw a pancake core urethane ball, then throw the exact same core with a reactive shell and you will see a huge difference. This all comes from the coverstock. As already mentioned the proper coverstock on the proper lane condition will contribute to what you see.
