Time Zone Drill
« on: November 23, 2003, 08:15:08 PM »
Ok.  I have thrown this ball enough to decide it either needs a new drill or a new home (and that silly PK coverstock tracks way too fast for me to even be able to sell it for a fraction of what I paid).  Currently around label leverage it is long and weak when in box condition, and when it is dulled it rolls much earlier and weak.  It doesn't have any recovery on it either way (even on the easiest wall shot I bowl on).

I wish I could make it react like a black buzzsaw drilled the same way!  But that just doesn't seem real possible.  I am looking for this ball to do anything really as the rest of my equipment is more surface adjustment friendly.  A stronger drill suggestion and some polish would make my life easier.  Any help is appreciated.

If I remember correctly, Brunswick strongly recommends that you don't place the mass bias indicator on the negative side of the ball. All of the suggested layouts show the mass bias indicator either under the thumbhole or to the right side of the thumbhole. A label leverage layout places the mass bias indicator on the negative side of the ball. You need to plug and redrill it. If you leave the pin in a leverage position, swing the CG back to where the mass bias indicator is to the right of the thumbhole and it should dramatically improve your reaction.

"WARNING – Both the Warp Zone & Time Zone have a large amount of asymmetry designed into the core. Do not place the PSA locator pin on the negative side of the ball, you could track over every hole on the ball!"

Thanks.  The PSA is currently under the thumb and tracks starting ~1/4-1/2" away from the thumb and fingers.  So I guess this puts the CG a little right of grip center.

It follows their medium drill pattern for "aggressive midlane with delayed hook for use on a wide variety of conditions," which is why I drilled it this way.  I wanted something for a league ball that isn't necessarily the same week to week and I cannot touch anywhere with more than a 2 board swing with it.

What would a weight hole do for it as it has close to 3/4" side and finger weight?  or maybe one of those wierd drills with the Pin in the palm?

I was just commenting on what you said. When you said the ball was drilled around label-leveraage, I assumed that the pin was right of the ring finger and the CG was in the grip center, which would usually put the PSA left of the thumbhole on the negative side of the ball, unless the CG was offset a lot from the Pin/PSA line.
Any further suggestions on my part would be just guesswork, never having seen you bowl and not knowing what conditions you are bowling on. Have you tried communicating on the Forum that Brunswick provides? There's a specific forum for the "high performance balls":

Thanks, I will give that a try.

If anyone in the mean time has any ideas, I would love to hear them

my revolution rebel ecx( same core )is drilled like this:  pin, cg, and psa indicator in a straight line, 1" to the right of the ring finger. balance hole below midline. of course this ball has the n'control reactive coverstock instead of the powrkoil 18. mine was wetsanded 2,000 grit which avoided a great deal of over/under. good luck !

Bill at Brunswick suggest this...What do you all think

quote:
Hi Chris,>>

Try shifting the PSA to the 45/4:30 area on your ball this small twist will increase your mid-lane and backend recovery. Start with the primary pin at 5 inches though. This will put the pin on your grip centerline. Also keep the pin under your fingers.>>
