Wild Ride drilling
« on: January 17, 2009, 01:46:15 AM »
Haven't picked one up yet.... but..

With the same medium RG Torsion Asymmetric core as the Twisted, would you recommand to drill it 0.5' closer to PAP (i.e slightly stronger than your usual favorite layout), as suggested in the Twisted video?

Thanks.

It wouldn't hurt, but it depends on what you'd like from the ball. The cover on the Wild Ride is a much stronger pearl, so that may influence your decision. If I'm not mistaken, mine have a similar (if not same) layout, but that's just a great one for me personally, so I've drilled several that way.

The other advantage is that it's easier to compare the two balls (Twisted and Wild Ride) if they're drilled similarly. My layout, etc. was posted on a review the other day in case you want to see... Good luck.

I would say Yes. The cover is strong but the core is still very mild in its differential. You might want to put the pin higher up than normal as I did and my WILD Ride is a home run.

Thanks Lane.

My PAP has changed quite a bit since I drilled my Twisted so the Twisted is now pin-up 5.5' pin to PAP. (it's weak!)

My favorite drilling is pin down 4.5' - 4.75' pin to PAP, pin down. So if I was to get the Wild Ride (very likely but need some cash first ), I'll probably drill it closer to 4.5 pin to PAP.

Pin down usually works better for me (unless it's short pattern), cos my PAP is 4' 3/8 over 1/8 up, so usually I need some help to get the ball into 'roll', esp in heavier condition. Will speak to my driller though (when I got the ball). Thanks!

Since the ball isnt a high flaring ball, I would not be afraid of laying it out with the pin in a stronger position that your used to.

Yes, it would be a good idea to go 1/2" closer to the leverage point with the pin-to-PAP distance.

Charlie,

I would keep it simple.  Since you like the pin down stuff, lay the ball out with the pin right below the bridge (puts pin just under that 4 1/2 number).  Then, as far as how much "roll" you are looking for, is how much is swing out the cg and add a weight hole if needed.

I layed mine out 4.5" pin to PAP and I normally use a 5" pin to pap. IMO it was a wise decision. It rolls great!
