Thanks to Mika and Ballard
« on: April 19, 2008, 09:41:26 AM »
We had our ball draft for the Brunswick 2 Ball Challenge here in St. Louis last Thursday.  After the draft, Mika and Del came in to talk to us about the patterns and offered advice on layouts, surfaces, and lane play techniques.  I wasn't expecting this and thought it was great.  Kudos to Brunswick for setting this up for us.  Only bad thing was we didn't get to go out on the lanes (due to leagues still bowling) like the league at Chesterfield.

I was at the ball draft on Wednesday at chesterfield and got to get on the lanes with mike Ballard and mike minneman (spelling?)  it was great and thanks to them for coming out. As some still new to bowling and a huge fan, it was a privilege  to be on the lanes with them and to listen to them give advice

I was also at the ball draft on Wednesday at BZChesterfield and it was a great experience.  Del Ballard, Mika Koivuniemi, and Mike Mineman were all there to answer questions and give advice.  There were four lanes laid out for each of the 5 named oil patterns and we got to bowl with Mika and Mike.  Del was walking around helping people, answering questions, and hitting peoples balls with abralon pads if needed.  We even got a hand-out written by Ric Hamlin with his tips on playing the patterns.  All in all a great experience.

Kudos to Brunswick for having a great program for their 2-Ball Challenge PBAX bowlers. And Kudos to Del, Mika, and Mike.  They were more than helpful, extremely approachable, and just great guys and great representatives for Brunswick.

Ric,
Del suggested 500 Grit on the Sidewinder and 1000 Grit on the Twisted as a starting point for surfaces.  I ended up getting the Sidewinder Rico'd and the Twisted pin under bridge, just to the right of grip center line with the MB at 45 degrees.  Do you think 500 grit could be too much surface for the Sidewinder with a Rico drill?  I think I used about 1000 on my Ambush on Sport shot in this house two years ago and that seemed about right for my game.  The Ambush was pin under just under grip right on centerline.
