Twisted Fury Solid surface finish?

It says "1000 grit wet sand".

Is that a 2000 grit Abralon pad (P2000 grit = 1000 grit US).
Is that a 1000 grit sanded wet/dry sandpaper?
Is that a Scotch brite light grey nylon pad? (some call it 800 grit US, some call it 1000 grit US.)

Thanks.

(Yes, I know I can finish it any way I prefer.)

charlest, please post if you get an answer. I have a friend with a well used Twisted Fury, and he's been asking me to refinish if for him. He likes it, and wants to get it close to NIB reaction.

Anyway, on the Twisted Fury I'm looking to refinish, it's fairly beat up. He's been using it at a poorly maintained wood house, and the ball looks like it's been through a war. Not a lot of deep groves, but it definitely needs work.

I was thinking of going the route of a through application of 360 Abralon, followed by a light application of 500 Abralon, followed by a 'careful' application of 2000 Abralon. Kind of the process that's been outlined by Roto Grip in the Coverstock forum thread (I've been looking for an opportunity to try that out). First, I'll have him test it out for breakpoint reaction, and apply another round of 2000 Abralon if he needs less surface for fine tuning. Do you have another suggestion for moving forward on this??

That's not an unreasonable first attempt. I'm drilling one tomorrow and, because I don't know exactly what it is, I have decided to start with 2000 grit Abralon (P2000 grit), as my first surface. I want it to be earlier and more overall hook than either my Ultra Zone (@ 4000 grit Abralon) or the Twisted Fury Pearl (@ stock Rough Buff finish).

If 360 Ab, 500 Ab + 2000 Abralon pad does not provide adequate length, then add the missing 1000 grit Abralon pad, followed by the 2000 Abralon pad. That will smooth out the left over 500 Abralon grooves (as in a normal sanding process). The next, of course, is 4000 Abralon pad. Valentino's has a P3000 grit pad, but that may be too fine a line.

charlest, thanks for the additional information. I want a couple of different routes to try. He's a good friend, and he's really touchy about his ball surfaces. Life was easier when his ball of choice was a Super Carbide Bomb, and all I had to do was refresh it with 35 Micron Trizact.

CRD, as always, thanks for your entertainment value. If you're nostalgic for Nick, e-mail him to buy one of his vintage "CGNOMADDAH" shirts. You can reproduce those shivers of delight, and think happy thoughts every time you wear it.

As a new "NERD" bowler, (proud of that, I am a paid NERD in real life) I have learned from Charlest, I come to this forum to learn exactly the things he and others like him post. perhaps you could start a blog for yourself and entertain yourself all day long. Then others could come and read the things that interest you.

If you can't find anything to criticize, you just make up some utter jibberish?

In case you don't really understand English, "1000 grit wet sand" can be interpreted 2 ways, depending on how they did the finishinf. Asking what they mean is not whining, by any stretch of the imagination. If you're such a know-it-all, why didn't you just answer the question, instead of criticizing me for even asking the question?

Oh, gosh, I forgot. That's all you can do is criticize. Pity.
