Ball for medium oil with clean backends

Our center just got a brand new oiler and I am having trouble with the backends.  I bowl on a THS with very clean backends, I have medium speed around 15/16 Mph and I track high.  My pap is 5 1/4 over and 1 up.  The ball that I am currently using is a Storm Thunderstruck Solid it is drilled 4 1/2 pin to pap(above ring) x 60 degrees.  The ball does give me the length I need but it snaps so hard off the dry it can be come uncontrollable.  I am looking for a ball that might give me the same length or read a bit earlier and provide me a predictable and controllable arc.  A ball and a layout would be greatly appreciated.

Since this is the Brunswick forum, I'd recommend a Wizard or Sidewinder.  You probably won't get the same length as you get out of the Thunderstruck, but those have a lot more surface and a lot less polish, too.  You could polish either of them up and get more length but you'll lose some of the control that they give you.

How bout a Total Inferno? Clean thru the fronts, excellent midlane and strong, controllable arc in the back..

Fury Pearl or Blast Zone. The Blast handles a little heavier oil since it's a hybrid, but the Fury Pearl is tough to beat on house shots.

Change the cover on your Thunderstruck. I took the cover to 1000 and hit it with Track Clean and Sheen (compound) and that made the ball alot more controllable on clean backends.

I also used it at 4000 and it was very smooth.

This isn't a Brunswick but for that condition the new ball by Roto Grip , Plutto would work very well for that condition as long as not a lot of carry down . You can't beat the price either , check it out

I would recommend either a Sidewinder or Twisted Fury. The Sidewinder will start up sooner and give you a little more overall hook.

You need a matte finish ball. Almost all polished pearls and solids like the Thunderstruck will snap to one degree or another, ESPECIALLY on a pattern like you describe.

Before buying any new ball, sand the cover down to 2000 or 4000 grit. Try one first, then the other grit. The ball will hook slightly earlier but stay smoother and flip a lot less.

If you try other solids, try 4000 grit. If you try another pearl, try 2000 grit. You can also, if drilling a new ball SOLELY for this pattern, put the pin very close to the PAP, like 1.5" away.

You've got to be kidding me The Twisted Fury is one of the biggest backending balls out there. Charlest is correct, you don't need pearl balls, you need a solid with a touch of surface. Also, if you bring the ball back to negative side weight, possibly some thumb and/or bottom, that will also fine tune the ball reaction, taming down the backend. I would suggest the solid Fury, if you can still get one. Good luck. =:^D

Tgod nails it...along with the weighthole he suggested and matte finish could make the Troad Solid the winner on this condition.

But you may like the reaction of the Troad solid other places as it is already.

If Fury solid...well I just picked one up at Allstarbowling.com check out his closeout price on these babies!

Those who mention solids are on the right track here, since they tend to smooth out breakpoint.

The reason I mentioned the Fury Pearl is because it comes without polish, so it's very strong, but not jumpy like polished balls can get with clean back ends. Layout around 4" from PAP with CG wherever works best for you.

The Blast Zone is pretty early, but continuous with the right surface prep. The 800 factory finish may be too early for many bowlers, but we've had great success with them anywhere from 1500-2000. I'd lay this out around 4.5" from PAP, and MB at around 45 degrees.  Hope this helps.

No I wasn't kidding. My Twisted is far from skid/snap. Yes it makes a nice move on the bottom but is very controlled and consistent. This is all accomplished with the correct drilling. The house I bowl in double strips everyday so I doubt anyone sees cleaner backends than me. My opinion is based on MY experiences with both the Sidewinder and Twisted, each one giving a different look from the other, and I stand by my suggestions.
