copperhead vrs. wizard
« on: August 25, 2008, 10:59:20 PM »
I had a wizard and never thought it could handle a good amount of oil,it was a decent med oil ball.now reading about the copperhead everyone states it needs oil.the cover's are the same and the number's are close but the cores are different.can anyone who's owned both give a comparison of the two since the c.h. is supposed to be the wizards replacement?

I have thrown them both, and although the numbers seem very close, my own experience makes me think the Copperhead is stronger. It must be the different core... I don't remember the Wizard being quite as strong for me.

Out of the box, for me, the Copperhead was quite early and an extremely smooth arc. Keep in mind that NOTHING HOOKS IN OIL. There needs to be friction for the ball to hook, but some read the rest of the lane more evenly than others. After adjusting the surface with a little shine for house shots, I like it better because of more late movement still smooth, just crossing a few more boards at the breakpoint.

If I plan bowl on heavy patterns, such as the PBA patterns or sport shots I would probably keep it between 1000 and 2000 (no polish) for a balance between earlier read and late response on the lane.

So, the Copperhead and Wizard are darn close, but for some reason I'm liking the Copperhead even more. Have you adjusted the surface of your Wizard much?

I never played with the wizard cover as it worked well on medium oil THS.I gave it to a freind as he needed a ball and found I missed the reaction so now I picked up a copper, havent tried it yet.I was worried the ball is stronger due to the core as I don't want a hook monster, just something smooth.if they are prety close I'll be happy.

I drilled mine 4" from PAP and below the fingers because I wanted it strong and smooth. I can't even fathom this one being "snappy" at any surface... Good luck.

Has anyone thrown the Copperhead on the Cheetah pattern yet?  And if so, reactions that you saw?
Thats what our league is going to when it starts up in a couple of weeks.

I did not see it, but two friends who bowled a PBA Regional last weekend on the cheetah pattern said there was a lefty who used one and had a great look because the ball didn't go crazy when it reached the backend.

They kept watching and waiting for it to go through the nose, but it just stayed on course. I couldn't tell you what the surface prep was, but that's been my experience, too. Very easy to predict where the ball is going...

great ball,I had a shot at a 300 the second game I used it.due to the pin down layout the ball gave up the line and it didn't have much recovery for a swing shot.I'm thinking of pickung up another with a pin up layout.
