Adjusting Ultra Zone surface

Looking for suggestions on what surface adjustment to make on the UZ to handle carrydown.  I'm thinking of scuffing the surface with Abralon 2000 and finishing with a coat of Bean's Secret Sauce.

Beans recommends against such a high numeric sanding/grit level before appyling Secret Sauce. Try 1000 Abralon at the highest/finest grit, then a light coat, maybe even by hand. You can always add more.

Personally I'd suggest hazing the shell with a green nylon pad by hand, removing some of the shine, but not all of it. You still need the ball clear the heads. Another possibility is to take the ball straight to 4000 grit Abralon.

I agree with charlest I don't think you want to do to much if you want to apply Beans.  UZ is already pretty aggresive and you might have a problem getting downlane if you go too dull.

I'd also suggest no polish as a first option, but if you do decide to add some Beans you'd be better off going pretty aggressive underneath the polish.

Thanks guys, I'm a stroker with medium revs and 15 to 17 mph speed.

Charlest:  are you referring to the std. green scotchbrite pad you can get at the supermarket?  I'll go that route first before using the secret sauce.

Yes. It's fairly aggressive, at 600 grit so do it by hand. If you want to play it safely, use the Scotch Brite light grey pad it's 800 grit.

When I want to do this, I lay the pad in the palm of my hand, place the ball on top of it, and spin the ball gently, slowly (don't get carried away), letting the weight of the ball do the hazing. Do it once or twice, and check to see what's happening. Test it as you go along so it's easiest to do this at the lanes whiel practicing. Try to do it when the lanes are somewhat similar to what you bowl on during league, obviously.

Again, you can always do more later. So go slowly.

And when you buy your pads, make sure you get the kind that will leave scratches not the nonscrathing kind
