help with my fury
« on: May 09, 2008, 03:55:06 AM »
hi gang, need a little help with my fury.  I have a fury 2" pin, 3oz top weight.  i trying a rico drill pattern (havent put a weight hole in it yet) its legal without a weight hole, but im having problems getting the reaction im looking for.  i seem to be getting a lot of over/under, and i've tried various changes to the coverstock.  im mostly a down and in bowler, but can move inside a bit if the backends are dry, so im confident with my ability and knowledge, but this ball is confusing me.  i need some advise on weather a weight hole would help me create more back end. i have another ball (mike aulby mvp pin below fingers center line) and i have problems throwing that ball also, im wondering if its just the layout??  i usually have my equip with the pin above or next to the fingers (4x3, 4x2, 5x3).  those layouts work for me.  should i put a weight hole in it, or just plug ane redrill with a different layout??

any input is helpful.

thx..af

If I were you I wouldnt plug a ball if I didnt just HAVE to. After you plug it you cant sell it for 5 bucks and then you have 30-40 more bucks in a lower priced ball anyway. Best thing is to maybe just sell whichever ball or balls you dont like and replace them with a newer one. You can get some great equipment these days for not alot of money. You can even go online now and get pearl furys off ebay for like 60-70 bucks. Im just not one to plug a ball unless no other choice, hope this helps, John

I had a Fury and had the same problems that you are having now. I never could get the backend reaction that I thought I should be getting. I hope that you can get what you are looking for, if you do let me know because I gave up on the ball long ago.

+1, and I am sure the Brunswick militia will detest our skills as bowlers and say its us and not the ball.

you need a longer pin for a RICO drill.  the weight hole i believe is 6 inches from the CG.  i have a RICO sidewinder and original inferno and they are awesome!

I took an old ball (Storm Eraser Banshee) out of the basement and asked my ball driller to put a Rico layout on it awhile back just to see what would happen.  He put the pin at grip center and swung the CG at 45 degrees, but did NOT put the weight hole in it.  He wanted me to see how it rolled before he drilled the x-hole.  I tried it in a tournament, and the ball was great on super fresh oil with dry backends, but got over/under and puked when carrydown hit.  I put the x-hole in it, and it works much better now.

For a true Rico drill, the x-hole should be in line with the pin and CG (a 45 degree angle), 6 3/4" away from the pin.

No weighthole on a Rico drill....seems almost impossible on ball with any pin out over 1 1/2 inches.....

Or has not been done correctly.

Also the drilling is to supply early even reaction and backend equal mostly to what you supply.  It is not suppossed to be a backend monster.  Even early and smooth for wet overreacting fresh shots mostly I believe.

By the way...I have seen the ball look great a lot of times...if the surface is right for your center, if the drilling is right for your center and you, and if you play the right part of the lane(a good amount of oil).

This is a real smooth good solid!

Depending on the starting stats of the ball, you can put a Rico drill and have it legal without the weighthole. My Zone Classic was this way. But the weighthole is used to tune the reaction and move the bowtie up to a flare safe position so thats more the real reason for putting it there.
