Anyone got any ideas?
« on: August 19, 2005, 10:37:58 PM »
Hi

I'm looking for a medium oil ball that hits hard and has a good strong backend to help compensate for my lower rev rate. Not sure I want a particle ball, unless anyone thinks it could be a good move.

My profile shows as much information as I can give at the moment.....I'm not exactly an expert!

Thanks

my profile is similar to yours except my average ball speed is slightly higher. there are several good balls to choose from that work well on medium conditions. i have a nemesis and a absolute inferno and their both great medium conditions balls. i had a zone classic and it was great on this condition. the smokin' inferno looks promising as well.

Thanks for the reply....I currently throw a 14lb ball but I am going to get a used 15lb ball off ebay and see how I go with that. If it doesn't work out and I stick with 14lbs, will any of those suggestions you made be too close to my Triple Xtreme (in box finish) or should they all fit comfortably below that?

Also, would an original Inferno be worth a try?

an original inferno would work well( assuming you can find one ). i don't know how it would compare to your triple xtreme as i'm not familiar with storm equipment.

For medium conditions you can't beat the Absolute Inferno.  I used to throw Storm and I think that it would be the closest to the Xtreme.  My Extreme was very smooth with control on the back.  I have 3 Absolutes and the one I have drilled for sport shots is very smooth and controllable.  If you want to go lower price range the Nemesis is good too.  The new Rampage is also a great choice.  Good length and lots of pop on the backend.  Definitely a great league ball.  Hope this helps.

From my experience Extreme is:
smoother than Absolute. Absolute is stronger at the backends..
earlier and stronger than Original Inferno..
similar to polished Ultimate (my surface prep was 1200grit C300 polish over burgundy pad)..
(all with the same drilling)

It is hard to advice something without actually seeing your game. However, with lower rev rate, high track and average speed, I'd go for Rampage or polished Nemesis for mediums..

R-A-M-P-A-G-E...

Now that I've thrown it, I'm a believer.

It's like a poor man's Inferno, only a little straighter in front, and just a touch sharper at the break.  It may end up replacing the Nemesis as the benchmark ball in my bag.

If you're looking for strong back end, you'd probably want to stay away from particle equipment.  The Impulse Zone has a *decent* back end reaction, but it's probably too strong overall for what you're seeking.
