OK, I have adjusted the surface on the Ultimate, polish, smooth etc...

This ball is just a horrific disappointment. It does hit well, I will say that.

I have heard of how much this ball is supposed to hook, well, it hooks nowhere near what many of the other high end, big hooking balls that other companies have out. I do not get near the movement out of the Ultimate that I got out of the Track Mutant, let alone the Phenom, Phenom Unleashed or the Animal.

Big disappointment is all I can say, and if you are looking for a big hooking ball, look elsewhere.

I am not going to challange you, but everyone have their style/speed and lane condiction is different, it is hard to say which ball hook the most. But in compare to other B-balls, the UI does hook a lot more. (Although I think the RRF will out hook it when UI is polished)

I did not mention....but the Raging Inferno hooks more. I was not disappointed in that ball at all. Much more ball than the Ultimate was, atleast for me.

First off, I was skepitcal when Big B claimed the UI was able to handle floods. I haven't thrown a reactive ball yet that can handle what a high load particle can.

With that said, you are comparing the most hooking balls from each company. But are you really?? No, if you trizacted the Raging to 35 micron and threw it up against the animal, phenom, and mutant then I would say it was a fair comparision. I think the UI is best compared to other dull reactives.

I agree with you Ex, look at the Raging Inferno (dull) or Warp Zone for a heavy oiler from Big B, unless you still have clean backends then look UI.

20 or so games now on the UI...after using a Mutant and Phenom, I finally can go back inside. I wanted a heavy oil ball and certainly got it...

643 set with no 7 pins...love the carry.

Excalibur, next time, please try not to state your opinions and experiences as a fact. Don't say "this isn't a big hooking ball, don't buy it" just because it doesn't work for you. New bowlers might read this and think that you meant it won't work for anyone.

Agroves is right, too. You can't really compare a reactive to monster particles like the Animal. Of course they're gonna beat it down.

But you're right about the Raging, if it's dulled it's a better oil ball. I'm surprised Brunswick didn't decide to try and win the huge hooking ball race by making a solid, dull (800) particle Inferno w/ the original core. That would be a beast.

In no way did I say "This isn't a big hooking ball, don't buy it".

You cannot put something in quotes like that unless the person actually said it.

I said "Big dissapointment is all I can say, and if you are looking for a big hooking, look elsewhere".

Also, I am not the one saying that the Ultimate Inferno hooks more than any ball out, that is coming from other people in the forum and in reviews. I am simply stating my findings.

hmmm...i happen to have both balls.

at my league 3 weeks ago, we had absolute flood. probably because the oil machine wasn't setup correctly after previous day's SPORT shot tournament. once the ball got past 15th board, no matter how much rev i had on the ball, the ball just skidded in to the gutter. very difficult shot that day.

i started off with my animal, mb very close to VAL, early roll drill:

i couldn't find the ball to turn the corner too well, when it did, it did too late and couldn't fin the pocket. ended up throwing 15 to 10 and just barely got the ball in 1-3 vicinity. the ball's movement was straight, folowed by slight change of direction.

whipped out UI. played 15 to 10. the ball revved a lot earlier than animal. but overall, covered about 2-3 less board than animal.

the way i see it, both balls will cover similar territory. but they offer such drastic difference in reaction. UI will be smoother, arc into the pocket while animal offers more length and makes hockey stick movement into the pocket (yes, even in oil).

EX, have you tried taking the UI to 400? maybe 300 even. i think i would have had much better chance to score higher in heavy flood with UI scuffed to 300 than animal with early roll drilling.

also, i find that my animal hit way better than UI. although UI's easier to read, animal does offer stronger backend than UI. i whip out UI when i can't figure the lanes out. UI will always have that smooth, arcy motion to the pocket. great when animal's shooting past the breakpoint.

That is true, maybe I am using it on alot of oil, and others say they are using it on alot of oil (and it may be alot for them), but it really is not.

chamo191 hit on something I totally forgot to mention.....this thing tracks up really fast. I have maybe 7 games tops on the ball, and it looks like I have 25.

DEFINITELY true. the track marks galore on my ball as well. and i have only bowled like 10 games on it. i think i might try scuffing it to 400, then polishing it up. maybe i can use it on medium-heavy pattern when animal has carry issues. or scuff to 200 and just use as flood ball.

one thing to note: both animal and UI will cover tons of boards when back ends are dry. in heavy oil, they can't be swung out. just simply down and in. only way to score high imo.

Ok, I'm getting a picture here that the Actvator coverstock, which ic supposed to be PK 18 with a special additive, seems to be absorbing oil in such a manner AND SO FAST (which might be what makes it so effective a ball upon first use (?) ) that it is killing the ball too fast, just like Columbia's TEC coverstock did.

Can I ask why you took the reactive ball for oil then polished it? Did you do the same with the other balls you mentioned. Also, as someone pointed out, it is a reactive, not a particle. I just dont see the sense in polishing the heavy/long oil ball. Also, in regards to the cover change after usage, I have a few customers here with UI's. After 20 to 30 games, they do oil shine up like most dull balls do, but a quick 600 grit sand, then crossed with 800 seems to get it right back, atleast thats my experience with them thus far. Perhaps I'm just lucky, or my customers I should say.

I tried various coverstock preps because I wanted to avoid the "Are you sure the ball isn't burning up on you" questions.

Here is what I tried:

1500 polish
1500 smooth
1200 polish
1000 compound
800 smooth

The ball just does not work well (and for those that are concerned I will add...) FOR ME. I do not think that a ball, ANY ball should track up as quickly as this ball did. It has been the same in the past, Brunswick Coverstocks seem to track up easily, and if you go particle they burn up pretty quick as well.

This ball certainly has a place in arsenal, just not a place that I expected it to. This ball seems alot like the Dynothan Anomaly did for me. Not the oil ball that it was advertised to be. It is more of a medium oil ball, that definately requires fresh backends, it will not move on carrydown.

The pattern that I throw on is not really that heavy, atleast not in my mind........

38ft buffed to 44, Heavy oil in the middle, tapers out to the gutter.

I just do not get the reaction out of the Ultimate that I expected. I drilled it identical to the Raging. I tried the UI with an identical surface as my RG Retro Ressurection and cannot get it to cover as many boards.

Probably just a bad matchup ball to bowler.
