I am going to pick a fight.....
« on: May 06, 2004, 12:35:45 PM »
I am a huge Brunswick fan. I will pretty much only throw Big B or something they manufacture. I started with a grey Phantom, progressed to the Teal Rhino Pro, and then the Zones.

*fight started*
First off, I haven't actually thrown the Ultimate Inferno. I don't think this ball is a heavy oil ball. I have never seen a reactive, regardless of cover prep, handle large, long volumes of oil. I bowled on some PBA patterns this year. Some were buffed to 50 feet, my Bruiser (3 x 3) sanded to 600 wouldn't wrinkle. I am skeptical that the UI would be that much stronger. I understand that if you slow the ball down enough it would move, I saw a guy throw the ball(V2) 10 mph and it moved.

I have seen the UI in action on THS. If you have enough oil to get it through the heads and mids it makes a nasty move on the back. So, I will agree the UI can handle oil provide the backends are clean and the oil isn't extremely long.

maybe it was the black one then.  I wasn't positive.  For some reason grey was stuck in my head.

Any thoughts on the subject of the post?

I rolled one on a 45' pattern with 3' of buff that equaled a 48" pattern with 29ml of oil with box condition and had no problem. i had to go with more forward roll and drop my speed to 15mph. layout 4.5 x 3.5 with the MB on the VAL.

The Ultimate is for high-rpm players(400+) in heavier volumes of oil.  Since particles usually burn up for us type of players too early we need more length through the heads and a heavier roll down the lane so we can open up and generate more angle on the backend in heavier oil.  For those with no hand that need something to read earlier in heavier patterns goto the Raging Inferno or Warp Zone.  Don't say it's not for heavy oil because fod some people it is for heavy oil.  It just doesn't fit your game.

The UI is definately not for heavy oil. However for most it should be a good ball for carrydown on a THS.

For me, it serves as a door stopper. Just no performance. I expected much more and got nothing.

So far I've only been able to throw my UI on heavier oil conditions. I really like the hit too. In fact, I just put a little polish on it last night so I will be able to use it a little more often. Since I don't encounter the heavier oil too often, the ball was too strong and spent a lot of time in the bag. We'll see how it works tonight.
