Title: Ultimate Inferno Troubles :(
Post by: tgrabarc on April 01, 2007, 02:15:06 PM
Hi Guys,

Question for y'all on my UI. So I have had the thing for about a year and a half, it has never really done well for me, have bagged it several times and given it several second chances hehe. So I am just wondering if the ball is just worn out, or maybe it just isn't the right ball for my style?

About me:
170ish average
Slowish ball speed: probably around 13-14mph
Not too many revs.
Not much loft
Track just above the finger/thumb holes

The ball seems to just die on me. I can get more movement out of my old Ebonite Timberwolf or Track Enforcer, which should not be the case. Even when I focus on putting more revs on it, it just flattens out and is straight as an arrow in the
backend, am definitely getting frustrated with this thing

Thanks!

where is the pin and cg located? These are very nice stong reactive bowling balls. Should move plenty for you. With the slower speed, ever try sanding it to 1000 and add polish?

yeah...prob drilled 3 3/8 and sanded.....way too much for any backend reaction with slow ball speed.

Thanks guys, I am new to the drilling language, although I certainly need to learn!

I am a right handed bowler. The pin is right beneath my right finger hole. Not sure how to find the cg ...
The Brunswick B logo is pretty much to the left of the holes and perpendicular to the line between the finger and thumb holes.

Also, what does "burning up" mean?

Thanks for all the advice!

sounds like pin is in a very strong postition. Burning up means.. too much friction in the heads, leaving no backend strenght. By polishing it, it will slide more the 1st 20-30 feet then start making a turn to the pocket. Right now its just too strong in the front part of the lane.

Hmmm okay thanks. Although it makes me nervous to polish the thing with already no reaction and the lack of revs/hand?

Any good readily available polish? I suppose if worse comes to worse, can always get the thing re-surfaced hehe.

just take to the pro shop and tell them to sand it to 1000 and polish it....should do the trick....you need it to be done on a spinner, cant do the same job by hand. That should help out the reaction.

Bring the ball to a good pro shop they will do it right so the ball will react the way you want it to.

I've got 2 ultimates, and I LOVE that ball.

one is pin between the fingers (literally!) and the CG kicked out to be a 5 x 4 drill... I have it sanded to 2000 grit abralon, no polish . The other is layed out rico, and stays 800 grit/polished.

Realistically, even polished the UI is not the right ball for someone with that slow of speed, unless they're bowling on a bunch of oil. That ball is just not designed to store up that much energy for downlane reaction unless it's someone with a good ball speed or if it's being used on a good amount of oil with a clean backend. And, with the pin below the finger it gets even worse for a slower speed player.

Yea, I am getting to find that that is the case, guess my pro shop's advice was not the best. Is there a ball out there that would fit my style? I have a slower ball speed, prefer a skid-flip reaction, where I usually try to throw from the right side of the lane, yea, I never really venture left of the middle dot for my strike shot (usually, between 2nd and 3rd dot from the right on the approach)

Thanks!

power groove reactive, get a 3-4" pin ball and have it drilled CG in palm and pin above middle finger. no weight hole.
