I just got back from the PBA Regional in Vegas where I finished near the bottom for the second consecutive week.  I know a large part of it is physical game problems on my part but a friend of mine suggested that BW would probably fit my style a little better because they roll sooner and I'm much more comfortable with my breakpoint a little closer to me.  I tend to roll the ball a little more end over end, but I can tilt it more if I need to, but that is definitely a 'B' game.  So I thought that I might drill up an Ultra Zone with a "benchmark" drill to see how they react for me.  If this works out really well, what other BW Balls would complement the Ultra Zone?  Are there other balls that are a better benchmark ball ?

Second the ultra zone but also add the Swarm as step down, the swarm is simply one of the best cheap balls ever made. Decent length big backend hook and way above average hitting power, what else could you want for a ball that retails for under 170 at most shops.


I am calling ball of the year on the Swarm, if you get one and the Ultra you will have two of the best made out right now period.

So far my low game with the Swarm is 197, my average is up to 213 from 202 ball is flipping nuts hitting wise.

Ultra zone be careful with too high of pin placement, I have a pin down and one way pin high rolls night and day different even though pap with 3/4 total. I think the Ultra needs core help or might be just too long for some players.

My preferred benchmark ball from Big B is the Fury Pearl.  It is usually the first ball out of my bag on a THS.  For heavy oil, I have the Fury and Total Inferno.

I'm intrigued by Swarm and Copperhead.  I will probably wait on buying any new balls.  The wife would kill me if I added more to my arsenal right now (LOL)

Twister, I agree with you about using more control drillings.  After bowling in the PBA Experience the past couple of summers, I think that I need to drill up some equipment specifically for sport/PBA shots because nothing that's currently in my bag is working too well.  They're either too much flare and difficult to control or too weak where I can't get it around the corner.  I think I will ask for the "Midlane Hook and Backend" drill on the Ultra Zone since I intend to bowl on more sport shots/PBA animal patterns next year.  Bowling on these shots is kind of like learning how to bowl all over again, but I'll get it figured out sooner or later.

I may drill up a Swarm to complement the Ultra as well, thanks for the replies everyone.
