I have both the Solid and the Pearl. The Solid is drilled 5" from PAP above the fingers, the Pearl 4 1/2" above. Both balls are in box condition, and neither has an XH.
In a nutshell, both balls need friction in order to give me a carry angle, but friction is usually never a problem on a house-type condition. I've found that the Pearl is a few feet earlier than the Solid, and is smoother at the break. Consequently, the Pearl works better for me on conditions where I need to play more direct through the dirt, or when I want a more even reaction from front to back, while the Solid is better when I have to get my feet deeper and play for recovery.
The Solid is about three boards stronger overall for me.
Hope this helps.
