Upgrade from Monster Smash/r
« on: August 09, 2013, 12:49:11 PM »
I'm in the market for a new ball and I'm a tad lost what with the eight billion options out there.

I currently use a Monster Smash/r with the pearl PK18 that I have polished.  I'd like something a bit stronger, but with a similar smooth reaction.  I've always used Brunswick in the past but I'm open to anything, really.  The Brawler and the Beatdown have my interest, as does the Maxxed out but that appears to be discontinued.

I'm a medium speed, medium rev player with not a lot of side rotation.

Any advice appreciated.

There may be eight billion options out there, but one really makes sense to me.

The Brawler will give you the smooth reaction of a hybrid, but still pack a punch at the pins.  The other choices you mentioned will also be smooth, but will perform better with more volume.  The Brawler may be the most versatile and under-rated piece on the market.  You cannot go wrong.

I second the Brawler as a good replacement.

Storm Hyroad, it's the perfect blend of pearl and solid and the reaction of this ball is unbeatable. Pin carry is great and it is a smooth controllable piece......which is probably why its the only ball that's been offered for more than 5 years!

In one form or another it has been almost 5 years. Released in the fall of 2008, the original was the hybrid, while the current offering is a pearl.  The original has been discontinued for quite some time, too, so it really has not been available the whole time.
Nothing negative to say about the Hy-Road, but offer the poster a suggestion of something that is currently available so he can purchase one new...

Umm, according to Buddies, it's still available.

The Hy-Road is still a current ball listed on Storm's website! It hasn't been discontinued and would a great choice! The Brawler is also another option as notclay stated, if the op wanted to stay with Brunswick! Just my $.02, Bruce

Thanks, guys. I stand corrected regarding the Hy-Road's availability.  And it's a good ball to consider, along with the Brawler!

Thanks, all.  Hy Road kinda reminds me of the Danger Zone with the little inverted core piece.  How does it compare to the Brawler?

I know it has been discontinued, but the Maxxed Out is a very smooth ball also.  Lots of balls out there will be stronger than a Smash R.  It was pretty strong out of the box for its time, but todays oils make polished PK 18 pretty tame.

Maxxed Out is a great choice, this balls blends out the tough shots and is very smooth. They are getting harder to find but if you can I would recommend it. I think cheapbowlingballs.com and bowlingindex.com had some not to long ago.
