All dull balls develop a shine on them simply by using them.  The more dull the surface, the faster it is going to absorb oil.  More oil in/on the cover will give it that shiny look.

well shiny balls get duller with use and dull balls shine up(especially if they flare very little, ie my viper with its .5" of flare)...the ball will get closer to about 800-1000grit or so i think people talk about.

Cleaning the ball with a strong cleaner like Track's Clean and Dull or a comparitive cleaner will restore the dull finish.  This can be aided if you clean it while using a scotchbrite pad.

Beat me to it. Just use Clean N Dull after every set.

scorchin is 600 out of the box so green scotch brite would be just about right to use. I had to take mine too 1000 abralon and rough buff it to get it too roll like i wanted it too. I do notice it polishes up quite fast like you described even with the rough buff finish, so about every 15-20 games if you like 600 you might too clean it and hit it with the green scotchbrite pad.

Sammbo generally everything with a cover at one end of the extremes whether its dull or shiny will require maintenance to keep it that way.  I have a Rule Delta 1 that I clean after almost every set with Clean and Dull by gently rubbing with a green scotchbrite pad.  The only maintenance you have to do to the ball is what you choose to do.  If you like the way it rolls with a little shine, keep it that way.

I noticed on mine too how fast it shined up. As dull as this thing is OOB, it really changed on me. But some alcohol and a green scotch brite put it back the way it was.
