What quality problems
« on: January 02, 2008, 08:39:40 AM »
Not only have I read threads here refering to Brunswick quality problems but I ashed one of my area pro shops why they are not carrying the Twisted Fury. He claims that he's staying away from the big B because of the quality problem rumors. The amazing thing is that the last two tournaments that I've been too 70% of the new balls that are being used are Brunswick and not one complaint about any problem with their new balls. Could it be that certain people are trying to give Big B a black eye for taking manufacturing to Mexico?
Thoughts?

Being that I now work for a VERY LARGE distributor, and would certainly have an axe to grind against Brunswick if I chose to, I can honestly say that Brunswick is certainly no worse, and for the most part better, than any other manufacturer when it comes to quality issues.

I see all the manufacturers defects that come back through my territory. And Brunswick balls being returned for quality issues (i.e. cracking, mis-marked cg, etc.) are very few.

Yes there has been a few delays in shipping, but as Ricky stated ("A car is not a toy, Lane Meyer". Ref. to the movie Better Off Dead), guilty until proven innocent.

Being that Brunswick was VERY public with their announcement that they were moving bowling ball manufacturing to Mexico, they have been ridiculed unmercifully. But when other manufacturers have had balls made across the pond, no one says boo.

For those of you who will state that you will only buy products from American companies (i.e. Ford, GM, etc.), Brunswicks' headquarters is still located in Lake Forest, IL.

bartzini, thank you for sticking up for my former employer and the employer of many of my very close friends.

Okay, off my soapbox..........for now.

You want to talk about quality control, let's talk Ebonite/Hammer.  The last 6 Ebo balls my buddy have bought have cracked for no particular reason.  He used to use Brunswick and Columbia, never had that problem.  All I throw is Brunswick and I've never had a single problem with anything.  And you know what, if he gets the balls in from his distributor and there are issues . . he can just send them back and get different ones . .

Yes all clear bowling balls are made in other countries.  I haven't had any quality control issues with Brunswick ever.  I don't use their equipment much, but what I have used has been fine.

I hear a lot of people saying their Ebonite stuff dies out early and Storm for a while was doing a lot of cracking.  I use Hammer and have no issues at all.  I have put a ton of games on my Black Widow, and it seems to work better when not cleaned.

My Ebonite spare ball is cracking huge around the ring finger, so I am going to have to replace that soon.  I think I might go with the Black Widow Spare  I mean why not have all the Black Widows lol.

I have not heard any complaints in the shop I work in. IN FACT: The only time we EVER had to send anything back was because we accidentally over stocked, not because of defects, now storm and ebonite? Where do I begin...

Pro Shops will always SEE more balls than just your average bowler.  So if a whole year goes by and you see shipping delay after delay, backup on releases after backup, an occasional ball with rippes in it, a faded viz that got through as a first with no mention on the box, then the shop mentions it a few times in an open forum then the mudslinging gets worse and worse with the worst of it often being from instigators who just want to stir the pot.

I haven't heard of Brusnwick issues (or from other manufacturers) lately around here. I think the EPX "tragedy" and some other quality issues from previous years (Paradigms, BWs) made quality control even better.
Only thing I had with a Brunswick-produced ball was my Awesome Finish, which was OOB very unpredictable for me and the engravings protruded recognizably from the ball surface, plus some small air bubbles showed in the surface after 1st sanding at home.
The surface issue could be mended, and after I heard that in the production process the ball get wet sanded to 220 grit, then a coat of Rough Buff and then a coat of polish, this reaction deficit made sense to me.

The only issues my pro shop has seen is some balls have come with the surface different than what was supposed to be but a few seconds on the spinner or Haus took care of that.
