Title: Vapor Zone....layout, what kind of reaction to expect?

Hey all, I'm picking up a used Vapor that I will be plugging and redrilling.  The only Brunswick I've had so far is the Smokin', which I only had moderate success with.  (I found that I could really only use it on light oil, and it often seemed to go into a hook/set motion.)  Anyhow, any recommended layouts for decent length and a smooth backend?  Also, what can I expect from this ball?  Is it more for medium oil, or what kind of volume does it excel on?

Thanks, Bob.  I found the Smokin to be very condition specific as well.  In fact, I'm trading the Smokin' for the Vapor.

I would say go pin under ring with
the MB 3 inches away from thumb.
This will let the ball rev up in the mid lane and
be smooth on the backend.

The Zone series is sort of funny, in a sense that I personally find some asymetericals are hook set naturally. But the zone series is asymeterical but more continous for most players, because the cores are not extreme in design and intermediate diff is not as high.

But you are still able to retain the properties of asymeterical layouts. I see alot of times players wanting to place pins farther way from the pap to get more length and less reaction. With Symetericals this does apply in general, but you often push pins farther turning it into more backend and more over under. I like using the zone series because you can take vapour zones, and place pins at 4 1/2 inches to 5 inches from pap and make a backend monster, but then for someone else that wants something smoother and controling over reactive backends i use a 2 1/2 pin to pap layout with the MB below the thumb and they have stable smooth roll.


For asymeterical balls look for lower pins with closer pin to pap layouts for more stable roll, for more jump/sharper reactions to dry place pins higher and farther away.
