pg dry/r or xxxl question
« on: January 11, 2006, 07:43:10 AM »
got an older gent who throws about 13mph.

everything hooks way too early for him now on this ths.

looking at both of these balls, I believe they may work for him as he throws very direct up the track.  the plastic ball kind of scares me as I kind of see it might skid around too much but reviews dot seem to indicate that.

would the dry/r hook more than the xxxl??  I got a chance at a used dry/r with pin above bridge cg in palm.  this would be very mild and might be the ticket for him.  any thoughts are appreciated.  doug

At that speed, I'd seriously consider the plastic ball.  I have a red pin Classic Zone that fits nicely between my pearl urethane Slate Blue Gargoyle and my Blue Dot.  I have used my CZ almost exclusively during my toasty afternoon league.  I have also been using it for spares since it does nothing unless you put some decent hand into it.  Anyway, I brought my Blue Dot along to get some practice after league.  I need to work on the thumb, but on the shots I threw well, the plastic ball was a very good down and in option for this condition.  I love my CZ, but it still needs to be thrown with more speed and from much deeper.  If the guy throws 13 mph and doesn't like to swing the ball from at least the 3rd arrow, I'd think the plastic XXXL would be the best choice.  I haven't thrown a PG/Dry, but the red pin CZ is a very weak resin ball, and any resin is too strong for how I read your post.

I agree with Bob, the main question is if he is demanding to play up the boards in the track and out, or if he is willing to play a little bit of a bounce. The Dry/R is a very mild ball, but will still move alot more off the dry than any plastic ball. On the other hand, the XXXL would be a better choice if he only wants to carry one ball, as it would pick a 10 pin alot easier and would probably be more versatile all around for him unless he already carries a plastic or rubber ball.

our house ths is pretty oily and most bowlers have no problem staying right even with strong equipment.  he is darn close to hitting the pocket now with a Storm Pro Stock Sport Pearl, just a little too much.  that is why the plastic kinda worries me.  I think I am going to go with a dry/r, a user on here has one like brand new for $30, not much of a risk.

thanks for all of your help.  doug
