On the subject of polish.........
« on: March 02, 2006, 09:30:07 AM »
What would you recomend putting on the Scorchin' on it's oob surface? Would you use Ruff N Buff, or Brunswick factory polish, or what? Would polish reserve some energy for the backend?

I'm thinking of some polish to use it on a house shot a little more, don't want it to burn up, but still want it to handle the oil.

brunswicks rough buff and factory finish high gloss polish are two different products. the factory finish high gloss polish is a gritless polish that is applied over whatever grit you have sanded/scuffed the ball to. this polish will give your ball more length down the lane and will also increase the backend reaction when the ball hits the drier part of the lane. the reaction of the ball will be more skid/flip. the rough buff is basically a rubbing and finishing compound. it too will give the ball more length( though not as much as the polish )but will not create that skid/flip reation. the reaction will be more even arcing. the use of these products depends on many factors: ball speed, lane conditions, axis tilt, axis rotation, etc.

In addition to what Greg said, Rough Buff will change the grit level, making it smoother, moving from 600 grit  (stock finish of the Scorchin') to who knows what - probably 1000 - 1500 grit depending on ho wmuch you use, how hard you press and for how long.
