Punched up a Versa Max during lunch and could not fight off trying it out tonight. Went to the local old wooden house. Oil machine belt was broken so I got to see this ball at its finest.
I drilled it pin under and to the right of ring finger, 4.5" from my axis. I always start off with a similarly drilled Black Panther. I had to play 20 at the arrows with a break point at around 8-10 to get it to the pocket and carry. Put it back in the bag and figured I would give the Versa Max a try. Could play 12-14 to 8 and kill the pocket.
I am learning to bowl without my Robby's Rev brace, so I have to say I did not throw the ball well. High game was 202. But, when I threw the Versa Max half way decent, it hit hard and carried anything close to a pocket hit. One of the guys in our men's league noticed the ball's hit and was quick to point out that it hit harder than any of the balls he had seen me roll.
My initial observation is that this is definitely not a fresh shot ball for me. But, I know that once there is a defined track area, this ball will be money. Smooth as butter, very similar roll to the Black Panther, just not as strong. My line up right now would be the Black Panther as a benchmark piece, moving up to the Nexus, or down to the Pink Panther Pearl, and playing the Versa Max behind the Panther Pearl.
With this line up, I can cover the soup, all the way down to a burnt up house shot, with minor hand adjustments.
I will do a follow up post after I put some more games on the Versa Max. Just thought this might be helpful for those considering purchasing or drilling the ball.
