Are you sure you use it on enough oil? The WZ has PK18 coverstock with a medium particle load - it should be very durable. It needs good oil to work properly, and with a strong drill for early roll/arc it might simple be that it rolls out and depeletes its energy too early.
Furthermore, the WZ will arc, and that very early, so you might get the impression that it does not hook much since its back end is not booming. It has a killer hook rating on the Brunswick charts, but this hook is very even.
BTW, too much surface (IMO anything under 400 grit) might even reduce the contact area of the ball surface and decrease the grip level of the ball.
