Arsenal Question
« on: April 24, 2008, 12:25:44 PM »
My arsenal currently includes an Ebonite Gamebreaker with pin just below the ring finger, a Columbia Momentum with pin kicked right of the ring finer, and an Ebonite Bash with pin above. I can get some pics up this weekend if it would help.

Im thinking of drilling up another ball this summer to fit somewhere inbetween the Momentum and the Bash, which I plan to polish even more as its fairly weak polished. I have been hearing good things about the Avalanche series, and I was thinking the Avalanche Solid might be a good fit, but I figured I would ask for some recommendations here first. Do you think the Avalanche solid would fit here, and how would I have it drilled?

avalanche solid is probably the best low end ball ive ever thrown. very controlable and can play in the dry with the proper layout

Well if they get extremely dry I have a polished Bash that works wonders. Im looking for something a little stronger than that, but weaker than my Momentum. I figured the Avalanche Pearl would be a little to weak for what im looking for, so I thought of the avalanche solid. Do you think it would be a good fit there?

I think you might like a variety of equipment, some of which has been discontinued and may take locating. As far as "new" equipment goes, I'd definitely look into the Columbia Rival, drilled pin outside the ring finger, CG stacked basically straight down. This ball handles coverstock modifications fairly well, so you can tune it up or down a little.

I'd look seriously into a Radical inferno as well, drilled similarly. However, with the Radical, you'll have to throw it in the dry for a while to get a track burnt in, or give a little surface to it.

The avalanche solid may work here, but I'm not sure how well. If you did end up drilling this, I'd put the pin (once again) outside the ring finger, but this time, instead of CG straight down as with the Radical/Rival, I'd kick the CG away from the palm, and put a weight hole. However, I'm not 100% sure, because I don't know much about the avalanche.

Another great ball you may consider looking into is the Black Widow Pearl. If you went with this, I'd do the pin up and a little bit out from the ring finger, with the CG in a similar position to the avalanche, including a weight hole as well.

I'll re-update if I come up with anything else.

I am a righty, with a high rev rate (400-500 rpm) and semi-high speed (16-17 mph). Book average is 202, and I consider myself one of the most versatile bowlers I know; I can play a stroker, tweener, or cranker line, depending on what the shot calls for.

For a game based on the principles of science and math, bowling sure does have a bad habit of being illogical.

To note a big reason I looked at the Avalanche is I think my pro shop has a sale on X-Outs.
