Weird thing found while drilling a Python
« on: August 15, 2009, 02:34:35 AM »
I went to pick up my new Python on Thursday.  When the pro shop was drilling the ball, the drill bit got stuck and wouldn't go any farther.  When, the guy pulled the drill bit out of the hole, he found a piece of metal in the bottom of the hole.  I have posted a pic here  http://s980.photobucket.com/albums/ae283/laserboypa/Brunswick%20Python/?action=view¤t=0813092052.jpg  and it is magnetic.  Has anybody ever seen a chunk of metal in a bowling ball before.  He is taking it back to the supplier to get a credit.

I drilled a Ravage before and found something very similar to that right in about the same location...it was in the fingers as they were getting drilled by the pin. Not sure why, never really put too much thought in it...was my ball...lol. Its definately strange though.

Probably to hold the rod for the core in place for molding the ball.

The drill bit didn't break off in the ball.  The metal piece in the bottom of the hole is embeded into the bowling ball.

The ball has been exchanged already, and the new one has been drilled without any weird things inside.

The straw material would be completely normal as manufacturers use them as indicators for the pin and mass bias locations (if needed).  However, I wonder what the explanation is for the metal inside the ball?

I remember all of the toothpicks and such under the pins in the Brunswick/ LAne 1 balls of the early 2000's.

sorry i took so long to get here......we received 5 inches of rain last night and my wife and i spent the better part of the day using a wet-vac to get all the water out of the basement. it's too bad brunswick_fan_bandonh has a quality control issue with his python. according to brandon he has already received a replacement. that's great. according to gunny he's seen a storm ball( made in the good old usa )that had the same type of quality control issue. hhmmm, how can that happen ? if it's made in the usa it has to be made better, doesn't it ? a buddy of mine has a brand new pair of dexter sst8's that has a quality control problem. a guy i know at work has a brand new columbia 300 white dot that has a quality control problem. i thought only brunswick bowling balls had troubles like these ? if you read( and believe )some of the people who post on this website, brunswick bowling balls are the only product in the world that have issues with quality control. and it's simply because they moved production to mexico. yet those dexter shoes are now made in china, aren't they ? well what do you know, his white dot was made there too. yet, no one seems to have a problem with this, do they ?  it's almost like it's swept under the rug.

my wife and i are fortunate in that we can afford to buy some of the finer things in life. we have a comfortable split level ranch house out in the country. she has a 2009 honda cr-v ex and i have a 2009 acura tsx. we both wear expensive swiss made watches. much of our clothing is from ralph lauren. we buy the best quality we can for the money. we've had 11 cars from honda(acura) and none of them have ever had to be repaired or use the warranty. we use to buy many of our clothes from landsend and l.l. bean-----their clothes have a lifetime warranty and we never had to use that either. i've been buying brunswick bowling balls, bags, towels, and shirts since 1995 and have never had to use their warranty nor have i had a quality control issue.

i guess i'm just one of the lucky ones......oh wait, that's right, i'm the guy with a flooded basement.

Greg, you seem like you are taking this personally. The original poster didn't say one bad thing at all about Brunswick , was just wondering what the metal was and if anyone else knew
