WHAT CAN I EXPECT OF THE RATTLER?
« on: March 02, 2009, 05:15:50 AM »
I want a ball for real medium conditions.
I need a ball to be a big step under the rogue cell or the virtual gravity...i didnt match up as well as i do with roto-storm with brunswick, but a lot of friends recommend this ball to me.
What can i expect for it? I am in between this one or a hy road...any advices?
thanks a lot
jonah

I would look at a hyroad or a 2nd dimension for an immediate step down from the virtual. The Rattler was an ok ball, was a decent medium oil ball, but to me if you are going with a virtual then go with something like the hyroad or 2nd. It will fit right in below the virtual.

Hmm..Lets see what I have in this bag...some magic, some hot sauce, and a saw.. how can I loose?

The gentleman said big step down. The Hyroad outhooks a Cell Pearl pearl and the Second Dimension is a slight step down, not a big step. I have seen a Rattler be comparable to high end ball reactions, and a great ball for the money. I shop owner in this area told me that he has seen the Rattler outhook a Hot Sauce !

The Rattler is a beast.

A lady bowler just drilled one up, and last week came to me and asked why it out-hooks every ball in her bag. (She kept going "Brooklyn" and has never had a ball react so strongly.) Her hubby owns a pro shop, so she has the latest and greatest of anything out there. I just explained that the reason is "where" the ball makes it's move. I had her make a big move left and swing it out to friction and she found the pocket again and was a happy camper.

Since most of the movement is late on the lane it's easier for our eye to pick it up and appreciate it's strength. If you're looking for a ball to get easy length and finish strong this is your ticket. Absolutely an awesome value for it's price point!

I just punched one up tonight, now keep in mind I bowl on Pro Lanes with medium oil which is still slicker than wood lanes. I was not impressed with the back end motion at all, I had to wait until the 3rd game to get a consistent reaction. I drilled it up 4" with a 75 degree MB and I am 5 1/2 over so it should have been stronger. I went to the Pearl Cell and it finished for me, as soon as I have find out what the oob surface sand is I will take it down a notch and put polish back on it again.

Does anyone know what the factory sand is on this?

No disrespect to "notclay", from what I read( from different ball reviews) and what I see, the Rattler reacts alot like the Ultimate Inferno.
"Notclay" is a really a good surface freak and he reads bowlers reactions to know whats happening for individual bowers, his insight to bowling his is strong point.
His week point ( if there is one ) is that there are alot of good balls on the market right now.
I work with " notclay" and I respect him but sometimes he is blind

AGAIN I RESPECT HIS INSIGHT AND HIS KNOWLEDGE

i just drilled a rattler ,
pin under bridge
and ball is what i call a control ball,
not a HUGE backend ball at all for me
but first 3 games out of box were  244 279 259 for 782 and i left 2 solid 9s
one that cost me 300 in the 2nd game in the 10th frame
and last game to cost me 800

The Rattler reacts like an ULTIMATE Inferno? Pearl Activator on a med/low RG med diff core reacts like SOLID Activator on a low RG high diff core?

Just to clear things up, the Rattler is nowhere near the Ultimate Inferno's reaction. Maybe "justdale" has misunderstood me at some point. It would be close to a Smokin' Inferno, but still stronger in my opinion.

It's a skid/snap ball that needs a little friction (as do all pearls) then it will turn hard. If it's not turning for you, it's simply not finding friction. You can try surface adjustments because they will help.

My son throws a Cell Pearl and we can play identical lines. My Rattler is stronger by a few boards on the back. We bowl 2 different houses with them side-by-side with the same results. THIS IS NOT A KNOCK AGAINST THE CELL PEARL. It has been a good ball for him. Our experience is also not scientific evidence either, just our experience.

If any of you need help with yours, just let me know. I don't have all the answers, but I might be able to help.

After talking to justdale, I remember telling him it has the same cover as the original Inferno. He's a Columbia guy so he couldn't remember which "Inferno" I told him to compare it to.

OK before too many people get overly excited about what I wrote ( at 2:30 in the morning) Let me be the first to say I misunstood what "notclay" told me, I meant to say the the Smoking Inferno ( long night sorry for the misunderstanding).

Isn't the Rattler the exact same as the Original Inferno?  I loved that ball....

The Rattler is AWESOME!!!  It has the same cover as the OI but not the low rg core.  So, it is longer than the OI and little more angularity to the backend.  I think the Rattler is closer to the Smokin as far as backend reaction is concerned.  If you wanted to stay Storm, look into a Street Rod Pearl as a "huge" step down than the Virtual and Rogue for when the lanes break down.  If you want to go Brunswick, I think the Avalanche Series is the way to go.  You have enough rev rate that a ball in the $139 retail area would be a good spot to go to when the Rogue and Virtual are too much.  The $139 balls are going to be cleaner through the front and depending on which ball you go with, you can get a archy backend or flippy backend.

I believe the Avalanches are the way to go for you.
