What Direction Do We Go?
« on: February 09, 2014, 10:12:14 AM »
My son is currently bowling on a 41ft (maybe longer) house pattern that seems heavy towards the middle and most of the friction from 5-10. Fairly standard I think. His current lineup C System 2.5, Evil Siege, & Mission 2.0, all go to long and will not make the turn soon enough consistently. This is mostly after Game 1. If he moves right and squares up he rings 10's or washes out. He  has fought this condition all season long. We have dulled his equipment up, but not drastically. C System is at 3000 Ab but still has some sheen, Mission 2.0 is at 2000 Ab, and Evil Siege is at 2000 or 3000 Ab. He is a lower rev speed dominant kid that kills the pocket when he has a defined breakpoint, but this over under is driving him nuts. Is it new ball time, or a major surface change to what he has?

Either or. Try 360grit for 30secs on all 6 sides then 1000grit for 15secs on all 6 sides. Try it on the red zone or the 2.5.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Try surface first and if not something mid performance earlier rolling solid.

I just helped a young man who has a great arm swing, but throws it fast enough that he just struggled.  Very speed dominant.  I donated my Brawler drilled pin down and we keep it around 2000.

The hybrid cover gives him the best of both worlds, and the ball picks up the mid-lane and just arcs towards the pocket. His average is now about 20 pins higher, mostly due to the stronger ball.  If you go with a ball that has too strong a cover he may hit the pocket all day but leave corner pins.  Good luck.

besides the before mentioned cover changes also look at the layout try a pin down or a earlier layout depending on your sons PAP. i bowled with a guy that had the same issue till he experimented with some layouts and fund one that worked well for his speed vs lower revs

Are the current grit levels being stepped up to current level, ie 500 to 1000 to 2000 to 3000?  If so consider skipping some of the middle steps and starting at 500 then do a light 2000 or 3000, leave more of the rougher base underneath the final step.  I am also lower revs and speed dominant and I like a 500 grit or maroon scotchbrite pad as a base then very light polish on top, not to a glossy shine but more to a hazy finish.  I like to be able to see there is some underlying grit left.

A friend of mine is going to loan to maybe buy a Visionary Ogre Solid and Gladiator Pearl. What do you guys think of the Ogre Solid for said situation? Thinking Glad Pearl will replace Evil Siege or Mission 2.0, or both altogether. He had a 13lb version and loved that ball so the chance to get  a 15lber and the Ogre for $60, he is jumping at it.
