What happened to Brunswick gear?
« on: February 27, 2017, 07:49:53 AM »
I am a little peeved this morning  >:(, so I apologize in advance for the rant.

I started using Brunswick stuff when the Inferno line of stuff came out.  That entire series of balls, with a few exceptions, was awesome.  The Zone line, in particular the Vapor Zone was just as great. The BVP Rampage was also a winner for me.

Due to the success I had with that gear, I continued to drill Brunswick stuff, (Furys, C-Systems, Snake series, Nexus, ect) and out of all that, I got 3 real good ones.  The Anaconda was good (which turned out to be an Absolute Inferno in disguise), the Fury pearl and the black and red Nexus .... everything else did the same thing, roll and puke.

I got away from Brunswick for a while and started using another manufacturer with great success that continues to this day.  On a whim I drilled my first Brunswick in 4 or so years ... the new green Quantum.

All I have to say is its the last Brunswick ball I will EVER drill.  It does the same thing, roll and puke.  Move in and it just keeps going, move out and it rolls at your feet and crosses over.

Does anyone else share my frustration with their gear? I used to love it but it just sucks now.

I personally like the balls that Brunswick/DV8/Radical have come out with in the past 2 years.

I have nothing but good things to say about the ones I've bought: Absolute Nirvana, Ultimate Nirvana, Grudge Pearl, Freak show Solid, Ridiculous Pearl, Brute Strength, and a Rhino.

For Brunswick, I love all the so-called older stuff such as the Fortera series and the Abosolute series.  I love the entire line up of Radical.  I felt the same way about DV8 stuff as you do. For me they puked even with trying different surface changes.  Due to injuries though my slow speed tends to help the so called 'puke' effect.

If the Quantum is rolling too early for you at the OOB surface why not try to bring the surface up to a 3000 or 4000.  This should make the ball longer before making the move.  The Forest Quantum comes pretty dull and is a fairly strong piece, so with the surface change it should match up to what you are bowling on.

I no longer use Brunswick equipment but the issue isn't the ball.

The green Quantum is a big hooking ball. Depending on the condition, the bowlers style, and the layout can lead to issues with ball reaction.

So without video of you throwing the ball,  info on how the ball is drilled, or adjustments made to surface we can only assume it's bowler error.

I honestly don't know why I don't match up with brunswick. Like the OP I was there when the original inferno came out and everyone loved it, but me. I got the twisted fury, zones, and other two brunswick balls (sidewinder?) and I didn't like them as well. NONE of them.... went away with buying brunswick for several years....

Last year I got the LT-48. It was good for the first two three games and I got excited.... but after several changes to the surface, I'm still not finding it. Will try again this weekend..... only the slingshot I've kept and the twisted fury for my son to use...

So here comes the radical... I was worried this will be another brunswick vomit. NOPE!! the rave is crazy good. I can pipe the sucker up the boards and I can go deep.... versatile ball.

BeerLeague,

Out of the two Quantums the Fire Pearl was easier to match up with my game, and it was an instant gem.  On the other hand, the solid did take a little experimenting.

The box finish was not for me, and neither was 2000 and 4000.  It just wasn't as good as other balls I had access to UNTIL I tried it at 1000 and then compound.  Suddenly it matched up better and finished harder.  It's still nowhere near a "stand left and throw right" ball, but a small move left off the pearl and I could play it out to the friction and it comes back.

Now the ball is difficult to leave behind because I can play close to where I do with a pearl except the finish is more predictable.  Still strong, but more predictable.  Not sure why this particular surface has been magic for me, but I'm not changing it again.
This ball went from being a "not sure" to a "definite" keeper.

Same here. I have had no complaints about the Mastermind Intellect, Grudge Hybrid, Absolute Nirvana, Mastermind Einstein, and Diva XOXO. Well, the Intellect cracked but it was still under warranty and I don't really fault any single manufacturer for that. It just happens.

Regardless, my results with the Big B family have been great and I don't think it just sucks now. This is more of a matter of not matching up with a specific ball. A few years ago they did go through a big lull but they're back with everybody else now in terms of performance.

I had both the original Green and Fire Quantums. I loved both balls with the Green being one of my all time favorites plus I rolled two 300s with it, one sanctioned and one non sanctioned. I would loved to have both balls again, but can't because of health problems, I have been forced to drop to 12# balls and those 2 new ball don't come in 12#.

Thanks.  I'll try that surface.  I have tried box, 2000, 3000 with no luck.
I have come to the conclusion that the ball is not the big "hook monster" the online reviews and posts claim.  It is a control piece meant to be played with smaller angles.

BeerLeague,

Do not be afraid to try a weight hole as well. I was having the same issues with my Quantum, and after a discussion with my Pro Shop Professional, we added a Double Thumb weight hole and it is night and day, I now had continuation off the back. Hate this it did not immediately give you what you wanted, but trust me it will come to life and you will love it.

BeerLeague,

Curious as to the layout chosen in the Forest Quantum?

BeerLeague,

Curious as to the layout chosen in the Forest Quantum?

Sure .. 45x4x65 with P3 hole.

it puts the pin under my fingers, directly under the bridge.

I totally feel Brunswick has had some homeruns and I never really throw their stuff, I just see it around me.

Nirvana has been a staple in many bags around here. The melee cross and jab as well.

If u want more down lane reaction I think (as a consumer) Dv8 would be calling your name.
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

Every ball has its best use scenario. The green quantum is meant to be an early rolling piece. If you want flippy you should choose the correct ball. I would recommend a red quantum, true nirvana, melee jab, vandal destroy, Xeno pearl, grudge pearl. Any of those would be great choices. If you drilled up a big strong solid from any company with that layout I wouldn't expect much different.
