« on: December 05, 2005, 10:46:19 AM »
have the oi, ai and ui. luv them all.  will the smokin give me that much of a different look than those 3 that I have??  the ai is box, the ui box, and oi shiny.  all drilled pretty basic.  any thoughts on the smokin are welcome including if it sucks monkey nuggets.

It would definately be the "flippiest". Those three Inferno's you have are all ultra low RG cores which are smoother by nature. The Smokin has a higher RG core and a new cover that compliments the higher RG much better than that of the Blazing, which was a hit or miss for quite a few people here. So with the correct drill, it could easily give you a different look on the lane.

High RG Infernos have always been a bit touchy - they do not seem to work for everybody. The Blazing was very selevtive, as well as the Intense. The Smokin seems to be "better". My friend has one (legacy of a Brunswick staffer who used it for tests), and it seems to be quite release-sensitive. With the right hand to it, this thing truly rocks. My friend had initial problems with the ball, it would not read the lane well and tend to skid too long, even though it is drilled pin under ring.

After a training session with a coach he generally changed his release to more axis tilt, and suddenly the ball came to life! The ball carries very well and has one of the sharpest breakpoints I have ever seen. Much like a Punisher, just stronger for more oil.

I think if you drill a Punisher and a SI in a similar way, you get a very good ball combo for anything but desert or flood - if you like flippy balls.

I haven't seen many of them so far, 2 or 3... the colors have always been mixed up and separated very well. But where the black and ivory material blends into each other (probably at the pouring jets?), it looks a bit pink...

Haven't witnessed white swirl yet, but I am sure that these come through high density mica "strings" in the ivory material, making it look almost white or with sharp contrast to the surroundings?

Mine is becoming one of my favorite balls ever. The hit on this thing is amazing because of how sharp it turns. It will deffinatly give you a different look on the lanes compared to what you have. As to the color combos, there are about 6 of them in my league including mine, and not one of the swirl patterns is similar. One guy has one that is nearly 90% white swirls. Guess it is just the luck of the draw.

I have a question for those of you that have some experience throwing the si. I currently have an AI with pin under ring, slightly kicked CG and a small x-hole to increase flare. The ball is awesome until the mids start to fry then, the AI checks up early and I start leaving 8's and 9's sometimes comes up too high in pocket as well. Adjustments don't work well when the 2nd shift lanes are breaking down. I am considering what ball I should go to. I'm thinking that an SI may be a good choice if it can hold the lane a bit longer thant the AI. The other balls I'm considering is the vapor zone and classic zone both I think would need to be drilled for length with a snap on the back end. Any thoughts?

Fran,

What you need to consider, is that high performance balls that are designed to go longer, are just going to backend harder (generally).  I tried this theory with the Absolute and Smokin one night a couple weeks ago.  When the Absolute started reading too early, I switched to the Smokin and got exactly what I expected.  The Smokin went longer, but was uncontrollable at the breakpoint.  Both balls were drilled the same and box finish.  Both balls are pin under ring finger, cg kicked out and small weight hole about 3 1/2 inches right of the thumb hole.  I am sure you will get mixed reviews on this.  However, I think that if you have the Inferno line and they are giving too much, maybe just going to a BVP line ball such as the Punisher or Rampage might be the better choice, simply that they are probably going to be a little more controllable compared to the Smokin off the breakpoint.  Hope this helps.

My SI has been notorious for leaving the pocket 7-10. Release sensitive? Hell yes. Skid too far? most definately. Gotta have dry backends or this ball will just not hit very well.

I'm thinking of redrilling from 2L to 1L(or even 1E?). Perhaps a green scotch brite to dull the surface a bit? I dunno. My SI has been a bit touchy and dissapointing. Not the best ball to get back into brunswick with.

I'm beginning to think that Brunswick balls work best for Crankers only!
