I was speaking to a couple of bowlers about the difference between a benchmark ball and a favorite ball.
My favorite ball right now is the Smokin, so its the first ball out of my bag to try. I think of a benchmark ball is usually something med with an earlier read and an arc. Maybe not your favorite ball but something that helps you gage the lanes.
So do you have a benchmark ball, if so what is it and how do you have it setup? Also is it the first out of your bag to try?
thanks

Columbia Action. It's smooth, even and great for giving a read. After seeing what it does, I know exactly what I need to switch to next.

believe it or not a slate blue quantum 3 inch pin above the fingers on the centerline w a 1 inch shift.

The Storm Hot Rod Hybrid drilled 2X4 but I'm now thinking it will be replaced by the Roto Grip Saturn 5X2. The Saturn is true roller that is controllable, has moderate power, and carries wonderful. I don't think I could ask for more, reads lanes wonderful.

Raw Doom. Pin below and next to the ring finger, cg kicked out an inch. Smooth rolling. If I have enough head oil, its nice.

storm pyro is my bench mark ball, but by far my favorite is my epic battle x2.

What an epic battle that was me against the pins every time I bowl, wake up again and go at it again, try to burn em down like a PYRO!!! Then I listen to ROME in the afternoon and that dude is like EPIC!! Ha ha ha ha you always say that!

Original Inferno w/ an arc-control layout and OOB finish. I can read almost any pattern off how this ball reacts. Luckily...I can play a lot of patterns with this ball too...very versatile.
-
my benchmark ball is my brunswick absolute inferno. it's wetsanded 4,000 grit and has a stable drilling pattern. this combination gives me a very good idea what the lanes are like.
-
Smokin' Inferno is first out of the bag.

My Track Heat. But my favorite is The One.
-
Fuze Eliminator (that I got from Mumzie) and a Zone Classic are my benchmark balls. I can read the lanes pretty well with either of these.
These two are favs also, don't really have any one favorite ball. Too many to choose.

I just drilled 2 14lb Powergrooves due to a hand injury. One Green/Orange and one Ice Blue. The stronger Ice Blue is benchmark all the way. I've only been throwing it for 3 days but this ball is smooth and sneaky strong. Easily the strongest of 6 powergrooves I've thrown. I went with a 3" pin to PAP no x-hole, 2000 abralon surface.
