Which Avalanche is the smoothest?
« on: October 28, 2008, 03:33:03 AM »
I suggested to a friend a power goove to fit in below his messenger but the power groove just snaps too hard for him. I was wondering if a Avalanche might be a better choice. Which one is smoother, the solid or pearl. Wer are going to dull the groove to see if will smooth it out.

How does the Avalanche compare to the Messenger Pearl?

Unless I'm off base, the Av Solid will be smoother. The Av Pearl is closest to the Messenger Pearl.

The Avalanche will roll sooner than the Messnger and Solids tend to always be smoother than Pearls.  Almost hard to imagine that a Power Groove is snappy with the lack of a dynamic core in it.  But if he has alot of rev rate on super fresh backends, I could see that.

He throws pretty slow, I've seen power grooves hook a ton, or not that much.

Too much energy on the backend reading the dry. I'd go with an Av Solid and a pin down to get the ball into stable roll. Then adjust the cover to fit.

Why not try the Power Groove solid, the Black and Purple?

A solid is always smoother and more even reacting than its pearl counterpart.
Although it comes polished, it can easily be smoothed out to 4000 grit or 1000 grit or anywhere in between.

Also a smoother drilling or a 4000 grit Abralon finish will help the Power Groove pearl, which is the one I'm sure you're referring to.

The new avalanche slide is much smoother than the pearl is. Been using it for about a week now and its easily a notch below anything else out there.
