Looks like a Danger Zone Black Ice to me.  IIRC, the Red Alert Night Flash had the words "Special Edition" engraved on it.

Kinda surprised Brunswick couldn't help you out with this...did you give them the serial number of the ball when you contacted them?

It's a pearl.

Seriously, the Black Ice is several feet longer than the original, and sharper at the break, with maybe a board or so less hook overall.  At least that was my experience back in the day...

It's a Black Ice, alright. I have one that I still use that STILL hooks. I bought this ball new when they first came out... probably 10 or 11 years ago! I have tried MANY balls over the years(been bowling for 40 years, since I was 10) and this is one of the keepers. It's longevity has been helped by me jumping on a favorite ball for two or three years at a time, but always keeping this ball around because I know I can depend on it to work on just about any pattern. I am finding that some of the older stuff is a lot more dependable and playable than my newest stuff (big one, machine, rule GP2), which seem to be VERY condition specific. I like seeing the big move on the back-end like everybody else, but the new stuff keeps me adjusting almost frame-by-frame, whereas the older stuff I could sit on one line for virtually a whole three-game league set. Keep that ball clean and shiny and you'll find out YOU'VE got a keeper too!

BTW, that's a huge white plug job on the thumb!

yeah the white plug job... hehe... i had a switch grip in it and i wanted it removed, so i didnt have a bit big enough, only 1 3/8. so i had to use a WOOD bit. it was kinda funny process.

but would the danger zone be a good stronger complement for heavy oil?

Back in '97, yes.  Today I'd say the Ice is medium-light and the Danger is medium-heavy, but both would be for mediums, not true heavy oil.

Black Ice Danger Zone...  I had one I sold a few months back..  I never really liked it, but then again when I bought I had only been bowling for a year or 2 and really didn't know what I was doing...
