BTM Mammoth Review
« on: November 28, 2006, 01:47:14 PM »
Does anyone else besides myself believe that the Mammoth didn't get the credit it deserved in this months BTM?????? (they say the scorchin' outhooked it) I believe that it actually rolled out on their shot. What are your thoughts?

depending where you bowl and what you bowl on there is a place for a high load particle ball. i've had good luck with my goliath in a mixed league with lots of plastic ball carrydown. i'll be getting a mammoth very soon and will give my opinion on it.

Chris,
NOT true ... BTM gave good reviews to the recent Legends releases earlier this year like the Black Pearl (particle pearl) and the Terminator (dual load particle).

Does BTM name a "Ball of the Year?"  I thought they only had reader voted on awards.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bell Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Just had to chime in here, since BTM was mentioned. We gave the Mammoth a 9/9/9 rating on heavy oil. Why is this considered a bad review? We liked it very much on that pattern. Also, 8/8/7 on Sport condition. Our tests showed it hooking slightly less than the Scorchin', but still very close in overall hook, though a different ball shape. I promise our testers know whether or not a ball is rolling out. As for "Ball of the Year" voting. That is done strictly by our readers. The ballot will be in the January issue. Working on it now.

In case any of you are wondering, theironman is Jim King, editor guru guy for BTM.  He is an excellent bowler, been tearing up the SASBA Tour lately, I think he won last weekend.  He and his testers KNOW the difference between arc and roll out.  Jim's a good guy, knows his stuff.

Just like all balls, your mileage may vary.  We don't bowl on the lane conditions that they test on.  I have had my opinions on ball differ, some that hook more than he say etc...  My conditions are different than his, and most all of us don't throw it as good as Jim and his test personel.

The Scorchin has a lot more in the back, giving the look thats it's hooking more. Also, more agreesive doesn't always means crossing more boards. The Scorchin is a lot cleaner through the fronts and stronger off the dry.

Hey guys go to the Brunswick insider site and read what Rick Benoit says about the particle ball reactions especially the Mammoth.

According to Rick, this ball reaction is the most misunderstood in the industry. Here is the link, also click on tour insights. http://www.brunswickinsiders.com/2007/BallTalk/BrunswickArsenal/brunswickarsenalhomepage.htm#BVP_Mammoth_

I have explained this thought to a few friends and students and they feel more "enlightened".

As other readers of the Insider site will probably agree, this is a VERY good place to glean information about ball reaction and other things.
