I have loved this ball for house shot. It is very clean through the lane and has a snappy backend. However, carrydown and longer patterns do effect the backend reaction.

I do not think it would fit for dry lanes. Maybe medium and some short conditions.

If you want to stay with brunswick I would recomend the Grooves. But I like the way the new Sonic X looks from rotogrip

BSB - a profile that includes information about your game would help a lot in recommending something for you.

The SlayR seems to be a bit of a mystery.  Some people say it's very straight and great for dry lanes, others like Zack indicate it's stronger than you'd think.  The only one I saw in action was Leftside in Tampa.  It looked like a pretty good dry lane ball in his hands.

I wouldn't suggest the Power Groove for dryer lanes unless you have almost no hand.  See my take on the PG here.

The Slay/R can be a good dry lane ball for some, and not for others. Truthfully the only way to find out is to throw one on dry lanes. Mine was very snappy at times, and very subtle arc at others. If you have clean backs, it will snap, if not it will have a smooth arc. I think its a good dry lane ball if you dont mind moving in a little bit to play a deeper line. It also depends how much hand you put into the ball.

It realy depends on how it is drilled also.

Mine is drilled 5x5, pin under center of bridge.
It fits between my Barrage and my Ignitor (drilled 5x5, but pin over the bridge.); it is also below my Crunchtime, drilled 4.25"x 4.5", pin next to ring finger. It fits below and between these balls in BOTH overall hook and oil handling capacity.

The Slay/R has a "normal" strength core (read medium RG, medium RG differential) but a nicely, very weak coverstock. It is not a dry lanes ball AT ALL, but more of a light to medium-light oil ball. Mine with 5x5 drilling covers more light, barely nudging into Medium-light, if necessary.

My Barrage covers dry-ish to light.
Ignitor and CT cover medium-light to medium, the CrunchTime when the lanes are problematic, the Ignitor when they are wide open.

My Barrage, Slay/R, and CT are all polished slightly more than out-of-the-box. The Ignitor is polished a lot more than OOB.

Agreed Zack.

But I've still seen the SlayR listed anywhere from a med/light ball to a dart on anything less than toast.  Nearly all of my information I have is from what I've read, but it would still be a hard choice to make.  I know you've thrown a lot of equipment, thrown on a lot of conditions, and actually thrown the ball, so your opinion weighs more than many.

I took this from another post I made about the Slay R.  Hopefully this will help as well

With my old style, I had it drilled 1 1/2 x 1 1/2. Very early arc and steady roll. Probaly the earliest rolling ball in my bag next to Goliath.

I have converted to a two handed delivery and the ball is now along the lines of a 2 3/4 x 3 drilling. It gets a little more length but a stronger reaction in the midlane and a continuous drive on the backend. Since I have gone to the two handed delievery(18.5 mph, about 500rpms), this has become the benchmark ball in my bag, along with my Time Zone.

I have yet to try one drilled for length and for the drier condition that it was designed for, but this makes a great first ball out of the bag on medium conditions when I need to square up and I need more control than the Time Zone.

So I say, srill it aggressive, great medium condition ball. Drill it weak, great for shorter patterns and lighter oil. This has a great cover/core combo so you can do alot of different things with this ball(and the Bruiser).
