My Scorchin need some help
« on: December 11, 2006, 04:58:38 AM »
Well i just got this scorchin from my brother and i am trying to figure out what it seems to be drilled for as i'm not very good at reading drillings. i've tried the ball so far and have been having some problems with reaction on a THS
Pics of the ball:

Hard to determine exactly what the layout will do w/out knowing your PAP.  Where are the oil rings on the ball?  Close to the fingers/thumb?  A couple inches from the fingers/thumb?  Somewhere in between?

For most bowlers, this layout would be quite aggressive.. early rolling, lots of flare, and in general quite smooth (especially since the scorchin in a smooth reacting ball anyways).  What kind of problems have you been having on a house shot?

The track seems to be over my middle finger and slightly left of the thumb.

Problem wise the ball just seems to die on me and sometimes struggles to get back to the pins.

Wish i could give more but it's been 2 weeks or more since i last bowled so my memory is not the best.

sounds like the ball is just burning up on you.. its a pretty strong ball with a strong layout.. needs lots of oil.  Your best bet would be to have you proshop put some polish on it and/or increase the surface grit.. this will get it down the lane a little farther and give it some recovery on the backend.  Maybe something like 2000 grit surface with polish.

I have my Scorchin Inferno drilled exactly like that, great ball for heavy oil sanded. Does great with rough buff polish for a heavier oiled THS.

With the OOB finish this ball was very quick to burn up in the head oil, this was a big problem for me even on sport and PBA oil patterns. The polish smoothed out the ball tremendously and made the ball more user friendly.
