I know they aren't out yet but I was thiking about buying both of them for a buddy of mine. My buddy just had all his bowling stuff stolen and I wanted to do something nice for his birthday. He really likes Brunswick stuff so I figured this would be a nice suprise.
For those of you that are in the know, would the Wild Ride and Rattler be a good 1 2 punch to start with?
-
Absolutely. It also depends on what conditions and how he throws it. You could drill the Rattler to roll and the Wild Ride to be more of the get in and open up the lane type of ball. Good 1-2 punch.

Dont count out cheap balls like The swarm or Ultra Zone, also great league shot balls The swarm is an awesome release for games two and three of any given league night.
-
was just looking at the wild ride specs and it seems to me that the ball would appear to overlap quite a bit with the twisted fury destruction. or am i missing something?

The coverstock of the Wild Ride handles oil better than the Destruction. Most notibly when oil carries down and the Destruction (or other balls) start to have that wiggle look downlane.

I asked this in another thread, but thought I'd double my chances for an answer:
What are the release dates on these two balls? Thanks.

jbuzz, that's about right. They are both meant to be longer and sharp downlane, and the Wild Ride handles the oil better because of the coverstock.

FWIW, I threw the Wild Ride and Rattler last night.
The reaction of the Wild Ride reminds me a lot of the Strike Zone, only without the wiggle in the front part of the lane. Also, the Wild Ride doesn't have the same inside limitation that I encountered with the Strike I could get my feet left, and still get recovery and continuation.
The Rattler was a pleasant surprise. From what I'd read and heard about this ball, I expected a skid-flip monster. What I got was a reaction that was a lot like the old Zone reaction from the late 90s--clean in front, midlane revs, and smooth continuation into the back end.
I'm thinking that these two would be great tournament pieces, and that I'll be able to retire my Red Zone and Fury Pearl once and for all.
I'll post more comprehensive reviews as soon as I get the chance to try them at a few other centers.

RSalas,
How did you lay out your Rattler and did you leave it in box finish? I am getting one in the near future and wanted a similar roll/reaction.

The Rattler has a 3 3/4" pin, so I went with a 5" pin-to-PAP above the fingers, with no XH. This layout has worked well for me in the past with symmetric-cored medium condition balls.
I also left the ball in box finish, and I'll stay with the box surface at least until I get the chance to throw the Rattler at a few other centers.

Just to let you all know the ball is out at this moment, at least at the proshop I frequent has them. I just seen them yesterday. for what its worth the rattler looks nice, lol
My guy has them too, but not on the shelf. They are both nice looking. My immediate response is they look like the Vapor Zone.

Pro Source Shop members got their Rattlers and Wild Rides, at least on the west coast. So many balls, so little time.

Sounds like the OI to me .....
Not sure I'd go quite that far. For me, the original Inferno had more midlane and was smoother in back, while the Rattler picks up as it goes down the lane. It's sneaky strong in back, but not flippy.
I still have a NIB original Inferno in the closet, maybe I'll drill it up and do a side-by-side.

I haven't used the Big B for a while and that's all I would throw several years ago, but with the new stuff coming out and I'm not on little e staff I can use whatever I want! I have watched a lot of people using the newer Big B stuff with a lot of success in tournaments and probably will be back using it again. Great job BrunsBob and thanks BrunsNick for your website and for all the info that you provide to us pro shop operators and yes I did forget about the Pro Source Shop info and I did take advance before and will be checking into it! Thanks again guys, Bruce

I think I'm going to tell the pro shop guy tonight to put my name on the Wild Ride he has in the back room, unless he has sold it already. If he has to order one that's ok since I still am a few weeks out recovering from thumb surgery.
I'd like to hear from one of the Brunswick reps on here what the recommended cleaning is for this new cover stock. I like things to last and am more than willing to put forth the correct effort.
Thanks in advance. Jon

Just keep it clean after each set before going home, after 60-80 games have the oil extracted in the Revivor or Rejuvenator.
I threw my Wild ride for the 2nd time last night. Freshly oiled anvilane (lower friction) surface. THIS MIGHT POSSIBLY BE THE BEST BALL I'VE EVER HAD!
I've never seen a pearl that can negotiate the oil better, or give me so much room on the lanes as this one.
Rattler is a few boards cleaner through the heads and makes a BIG turn, too, so after I've moved inside as far as I want to go with the Wild Ride, I can go to the Rattler and have fun with it. These two are great releases.

Do I need to use a commercial product for each set or the ole simple green-H2O-alco mixture.

I was able to get one of these early, and drilled it with a 4" pin to PAP, pin high, and 65 Mass Bias (also 4" from PAP) and this Wild Ride is an awesome ball. Much stronger than the Twisted FURY and Twisted Destruction. Playable from all angles. Strong ball. Great compliment to my Twisted FURY Solid that I bowled 299 with last Weds. Must have ball in the bag. I will have 3 of these.

Maybe this has been asked but how would a Wild Ride compare to a Vapor Zone?

I've only thrown the Wild Ride a few times, but I can say that it is somewhat cleaner through the first 20 to 25 feet of the lane, and is sharper at the break than the Vapor was for me. Also, because of its earlier burn, the Vapor had an "inside limitation" for me if I had to get inside of about third arrow with it, I couldn't get it to retain well enough to hit. The Wild Ride doesn't seem to have this problem it's recovered from everywhere I've tried to throw it so far.
