Wild Ride'n
« on: February 17, 2009, 03:20:40 AM »
Rolls very smoothly, doesn't like dry patterns, hits very good on off hits but slam the pocket and stone 8's and 9's all day long, throw in the occasional ringing 10 pin. The ball just doesn't seem to want to carry all ten unless I hit a little bit off (somewhat light or heavy).

Don't get me wrong, I love to carry off-hit strikes..but it's the flush ones that are pissing me off. Pin is under the fingers with the cg kicked out

X X
-p
---cg
-X-----mb

Something similar to that bad ascii art (ignore the hyphens, they're spaces as I suck) it's a 2 in. pin with I believe 2.75 top weight (not sure on this as I don't have the box)

I guess I'm wondering is a x-hole viable to increase the backend a little? The ball is still in OOB shape and I'm hesitant to switch it, as I've had problems getting a Total Inferno (220 grit then rough buff finish) back to oob shape, and it's the only ball I've worked with rough buff on so I'd rather leave it the way it is. I have thought about taking it to 4k abralon to see if it has more pop on the backends, but I have a feeling it will read the mids even harder with the drilling I have.

We need to know a bit more about your game (i.e., ball speed, rev rate, axis point, axis tilt).

But, when I hear that someone is leaving the back row (8's, 9's & 10's), I tend to think that you may be using a ball that is storing too much energy and is being too angular at the backend.

With the strength of these balls currently, we are all going to leave a few back row items. But if you are seeing more than your fair share, try using balls that start up a bit sooner and are less angular. You want the ball to split the 8 & 9, not running over the 8 and leave the 9.

Just my opinion.

roughly 16-17 mph according to Qubica, 300ish RPM (never clocked, but I know a 400 rev guy and I'm not close to him, but I have alot more hand then the average bowler.)

Went 174, 244, 300 in league tonight, average 221..ball was way squirty first game, as the lanes carried down the ball really started to shine. I'd almost like to drill another one and go a little duller with the surface..which is basically what you stated, Verbs

Personally, I think you should hit it with 1000 then rough buff.... This should give you a little more pop.....I have the same exact layout in mine

slap the dime,
He doesn't need more pop. He needs earlier roll to decrease the entry angle.

I agree 100%..

Congrats on your 300 last night Tuck!!!!

I think you answered your own question when you stated that the Wild Ride was a little squirty the first game. Then as the lane transitioned, the ball started reacting and carrying like you want it to.

There are better choices for a fresh condition (i.e. Maxx Zone, Twisted Fury Solid, Copperhead), that will give you a more even reaction on the freshand not be as jumpy off the dry.

Great job, Tuck!

For what it's worth I have kept my Wild Ride without the shine (approximately 2000) and I love it on fresh oil.

Thanks for the congratulations, but I'm more kicking myself about the 174 then patting myself on the back for the 3. I'd rather have an 800 then a 300..I have more 3's then 8's right now, lol.

I've taken to using my Cell first game, using the track area and burning up a break point, then jumping left and switching to the Wild Ride. I have thought of using my Fury Pearl to break down the pattern in that area as well, but then I never want to switch to the Wild Ride because the Fury Pearl is such an awesome ball. A good problem to have, I suppose.

I'd say the Wild Ride goes a little longer and turns a lot harder then the fury pearl, even with the drilling I have on the FP (pin above bridge, cg just above and to the right of the thumb hole) the WR still gets more length down the lane. Both are still OOB.

When I first rolled the Wild Ride it seemed like a very strong fury pearl, and that's the way it's turning out to be. I'll say that my FP carries better until you can play a nice swing with the WR, then it's lights out. The WR really doesn't seem to like fresh patterns for me, but just annihilates carry down as long as you stick with the transition..you get caught a frame or two behind and it will let you know, lol.

My FP works better for me on fresher patterns, so it works out fairly nice.

After bowling on some really old wooden lanes that tracked the hell out of my ball, I had it refinished from 500 up to 4000 abralon in increments, and let me tell you this ball is a whole nother beast without the shine on it. I love it.
